i did the same conversion but now i get 3 sets of 5 beeps when turning the
car on and repeats after 20 mins. any idea what i can do?
Good vid. I bought spring from a u pull yard for $17.00 and spent 1.5 hours
putting them in. Took them out of a crown victoria. Rides great and won’t
fail.
How costly is this?
Awesome i nedd to this on my car…
Every time I start up my car, the compressor comes on for about 2 minutes.
Is this a sign that they are going? Then again I have never found my back
end on the ground.
does anyone know if driving with the air ride switch off is a bad idea? can
this damage my vic?
Great demonstration. Thanks! Comments: (1) In may case, so as to avoid the
need for “team work” when installing the coils, I placed a small bottle
jack between the frame in the area of the wheel arch and the top of the
differential. I slowly expanded the jack to give me just enough extra space
so as to allow placing the coil in place on my own, without help from
others. (2) I taped (with electrical tape) the bushings to the top of the
coils so that they wouldn’t fall off during install.
Great video thanks. Went to junk yard, found crown victoria with its coils.
Found jack placed 6 inch pipe on base of jack to bottom of coil on base of
axle. Turned jack until it lifted the coil and it poped of the axle. 30.00
for 2 Installing, had one hard nut on one tire. Went to mechanic, he
charged me 16.00 to loosen hard nut on tire and the two nuts on shock
absorber as shown on video. Used jack to raise car 1 side at a time.
Followed vid instructions total cost $52.00 30.+16.+4.gogles.
urethane shocks all the way
Glad you got it all installed! I feel your pain about fixing your car in
July, in Florida, we are also in Florida so I know all too well how fun it
is to wrench on cars in our humidity.
If you have the coil springs in the rear, driving with the air-ride switch
off will not hurt anything.
You should release the air pressure before attempting the job, it can be
dangerous working with a pressurized air spring. Once the air spring is
deflated, you do not need to remove the shock to remove the air spring.
On the 52.00 install and coil replacement it was a 96 Lincoln Town car that
I did the job on. I am not a mechanic and I just followed these
instructions except since I had a limited budget. I went to the junk yard
and there are plenty of crown vics with the coils for 30.00 a pair. Thanks
for the video it really helped.
watch the video couple times order the kit from you and installed it my
self i have 99 ford crown victoria and it was the same thing as the car in
the video thanks for the video helped alot
is there a fuse i can take out to stop the the air compressor from running
afterwards
I have a 99 Crown Victoria, how much did this conversion cost for
installation and labor fees and the actual parts. I am having the same
problems. Can you also make a video of replacing the shocks as well. Thanks
Do u guys make a lowering spring kit for 1994 towncar? I have a 13×7 wire
wheels and the wheel gap is huge with the stock air bags. So was wondering
if u guys had any lowering spring kits thanks
Good job on the video. I am sure it will give a lot of people hope for
their old Town Cars.
how do u turn off the check air suspension light off?
Unfortunately there is no simple single wire to cut on that model year, you
can try to trick the computer by adjusting the ride height sensor until the
computer sees the car sitting at the ideal height. There is a connecting
rod on the sensor (above the rear differential) that can be adjusted.
Hey my question is, will this pretty much work the same way for a 93
Towncar? and from what I saw in the video you dont have to bolt the coil
down or anything? I dont understand how it stays in place and doesnt slide
out. The top of the coil had that little piece that fit in the car but the
bottom of the coil looked like he just wedged it in. Im trying to do this
job myself on my 93. So I dont need a coil compressor or anything? And do I
need both springs and shocks or will just springs work
Why just get a pair of spring compressors? Wouldn’t have had to hide your
struggling.
@wakeman00is00biased Wow thanks, I really appreciate the positive feedback,
and hope you were able to use our video to help out 🙂
amazing…
You can just turn off the air-suspension master switch (in the trunk). That
will keep the compressor from coming on.
holy shit thats easyer then i thought
do you have to unbolt/remove the rear shock to get the air spring to come
loose if the bag is under pressure?
Great vid, thanks! Question: I test drove one of these late model TC’s, &
was really disappointed in the ride quality. It didn’t feel as soft over
the bumps as my 80’s Lincoln did, & I could feel & hear when it would go
over even small potholes -my 80’s Lincoln felt like a cloud compared to
these newer ones. Does your conversion kit improve the ride at all, making
it softer over bumps & potholes? I would have purchased a newer TC, but the
current ride really sucks compared to before. Thanks!
Thank you. I love when the mystique of mechanics are explained. Now that I
saw the video…I can’t justify paying a guy $250 for labor….which i was
quoted. One guy also quoted me $150 to do it. I’m seriously thinking of
doing it myself for free because …I know how to now. I paid $190 for the
kit.
@APDTY Thanks for the response! So would you say these springs give a
better ride than the air bladders? And would I also be able to do this
conversion on Town Cars from 1990-1997? Thanks again.
@bddls but it I couldn’t imagine spending another $1500 for a car that has
depreciated to only $3500 by now. Thank you for this video.
i saw the 2 videos where you install new air bags and then you install coil
springs what was better? i need new air springs on my car thats why im
asking you this question…. great videos!
@wdnindian It is probably about 1.5 hours of shop time,
@dbowersjr There are two methods, you can either find a wiring schematic
and disconnect the wire that goes to the check suspension light, or if you
have a single light bulb that comes on the dash, you can take out the
instrument cluster and remove the bulb itself.
You can see our current price on the coil conversion kit in the link
directly below the video. As for the Labor, It’s free if you do the work
yourself 🙂 but If you bring it to a shop, I would estimate 1.5 hours of
Labor time, the cost would all depend on what your shop charges per hour.
Sorry but we do not have a video at this time of shocks on this vehicle.
I have to say this is THE BEST auto how to video Ive ever seen. Precise,
Concise, well filmed well explained, NO FILLER, NO FLUFF!! Awsome work man.
@RedneckBabyG Doing the air to coil conversion is fairly inexpensive, You
can find the parts by clicking the link in our description, and if you were
planning to pay a mechanic to do the work, they shouldn’t have to charge
you more than an Hour of labor.
Hi how do stop sag when u get put load or ppl on a car?is the coil spring
that needs to be replaced?
Dose the coil spring add more
