Funny you should say that, b/c just a minute ago I called the parts dept. at our local Lexus dealership and got a quote of $25 for the job, so that’s where I’m planning to go. Since I always go there for service, I’m guessing they won’t need any special proof that I own the car….

Lucky Garg says:

If you got the lexus key shell then I would suggest you to go Lexus showroom near you. They also charge around 20 dollars. Just take your car registration documents and vin number to them because they will ask those before cutting the key.
I would not go to any other locksmith than lexus until as lexus would charge the same amount of money as compare to locksmith.

IYQUC (read those letters) says:

Thanks for the tip. I just got one for 6.65, shipping included. And reviewers there said they found locksmiths who will cut the key for $20-30….

Perfect reply; well done.

These key shells should be replaced with carbon fiber shells free of charge. It’s one thing to have to pay to have the key cut, but a rather sad case to have to purchase the shell. I’ve notified Lexus Corporate about this weak design and they essentially told me TS …go buy another one. What a classy car manufacturer.

Tee Dee says:

You’re not doing your research well. Look further, ASK for a better deal. Uncut keys are 10 bucks from ebay. Locksmith will do it for 25.00 when you find the right one. Best of Luck to you!

Raiya11 says:

$49.00 is cheap. Locksmith charge me $140 that is insane…Ebay has an uncut Lexus key for around $60. you take the key to locksmith to have it cut cost $40 still insane. Lexus quote me $220 for my spare key and $280 with remote.

steve castellano says:

so you showed in the video how to do it. took you about 2 minutes to just put the key pad in the new one. and then you say for only 50$. anyone can change it over, and yes at one point in time it will break, because it only has one baby screw holding it. now if you made shells with more screws better plastic problem solved. but it should be a recall.. every 50$ I give you for a key, I could be maintaining my truck. Not fixing a problem that came with my purchase.

We appreciate your constructive comments. While I feel your description is offensive and extreme in nature, please let us know if we can be of assistance in the future. Stay classy, NOWonSPRINGER.

NOWonSPRINGER says:

You can buy a key from EBAY through China that replaces the factory look and style for 5.00 or so and replace the internals yourself. You just have to have the new key cut. You can also buy a new style key, flip key through EBAY for 5.00-15.00 and use your internals as well. Finally, you can get a new style alarm with a push button start and remote with smart phones and upgrade everything to modernize it for a few hundred…It’s the way to go.

NOWonSPRINGER says:

He says “For as little as 49.00.” What an ass raping!!!! Dealerships things = rip off….
They should give you KY Jelly free with the cost to lube your butthole for the pounding it’s going to take for the cost of this. Lexus should do it for free. Everyone of those keys breaks in time…

Cardiffilms says:

Lee’s Lock & Safe in Encinitas, CA (San Diego County) charged me 20 bucks to cut my Lexus key.

Simon Rivas says:

Ripping people off fuck that ill duct tape my key!!

elibutton says:

This is nice to know, and I know you don’t make the prices, but $49 is outrageous.

afzal hashimi says:

Does this work with any lexus I am in Toronto cananda and was wondering if I take my key into a lexus would they do it

bigalan7 says:

it must be a recall as this is a common fault and not the quality we expect from lexus !

andrefrbk says:

125$ in NYC for a fucking shell, and the key. This is bullshiit.

hazeldyme says:

This just happened to me for the second time : /

ryanschear says:

I’m about to get my THIRD key in 7 years. Shitty design that should be fixed for FREE!

Tom Slobko says:

Most dealers charge $350 for this. If you buy the 8.99 key on ebay, you have to have the key cut (as with any key, it comes with no “groves” for the tumblers, so you have to have a locksmith cut the new grooves to match your locks.). Only a few locksmiths do this (three in the Los Angeles Area, one each in Denver and Portland, OR). They all charge 30+ dollars for the service. Ebay will charge for shipping, about $10. So $49 from a dealer is a GREAT price.

Agaspher says:

it is $90 bucks in California near San Francisco 😛

Lucky Garg says:

this video is good but $49 is insane, amazon has same key shell for just 8.99+free shipping.
go to amazon
search for lexus key shell

Vette V says:

ebay new key uncut $12.99. lexus will cut for $30.00

teinh22a says:

$49 for a design flaw? It should be done for free. The quality of Japanese products has been in decline. I will never ever buy a stupid toyota or lexus again.

garne2t says:

$49 for a new key shell? Outrageous.

tommh1024 says:

If this is the key that originally comes with the car, does it have denso word on the back?
