I have this issue. Broke the actuator and/or cable when the door was closed and locked. Based on my research on various Lexus forums, there is no practical DIY process…other than drilling thru the door or the door panel. Consensus recommendation on the fora is to take it to a Toyota dealer and pay approx. $500

John E says:

If you do the back doors, make sure the window is up, leave speakers in and do not remove the door handle. Just unbolt the actuator. Pull on the white or clear ended door cable to move the lever that is blocking it from sliding out. Pull the black one out to unlock so you can do this. after your done if your actuator works and inside door handle does not , the cables are not seated properly, they snap in out of position very easily. Rears are pretty easy after you do one.

John E says:

Time saving tips You do not need to remove the window or the speakers, make sure your window is up, then it is out of the way if the door handle. Club Lexus has plenty of posts on this. I cut open my actuator with a dremel, be careful the plastic can be brittle and I had to cut away much more than shown to avoid breaking it. The gear puller is a must. The window guide fits behind the actuator and will get in the way until you position it in the “Slot”. Back doors comment next

Great video. Thanks for putting so much time into giving this video to this guy who doesn’t want to spend $500..

Brian Moore says:

Hi nguyengs42 – Great information. I paid the Dealer to do do my driver door a couple of years ago. Now, the other three have gone bad. I am going to do these myself.

I have located four replacement motors on eBay that has a 9.85mm shaft length. Is getting a gear puller really required or can I manage without one?
Thank you in advance!

Omar Sanchez says:

This is great. My doors started to act up and this will be so much cheaper to fix vs buying the entire assembly

Bro where do u live! Great video!

Moradi Vincent says:

My door will not open up on my 2000 gs300. Do you know how to open the door. It opened once a while ago now nothing. Please if you could help I really be thankful.

Les Miller says:

What motors did you use and where did you get them from? I have seen MABUCHI CAR DOOR LOCK MOTORS on ebay, but they say these will need modification. $17-$18 for 4 of them. Any thoughts?

kaoseumu64 says:

is tha actuator the part that’s not allowing my key remote to open and lock both front doors?
The video was very helpful. I was dreading spending alot of money having someone else to do.
Good job and Thank you for sharing.

M Makhdoom says:

Thank you my man! You saved my friend $400! Keep up the good work. 🙂

hoplitified says:

Fantastic–thank you! One tip: you dont need to plug your door panel back in to lift the window tracks…you can use the driver’s door control panel instead.

heartdunk says:

Hey guyengs42. I ordered the wrong motor so I temporary put the door lock back so i can closed the door but i didn’t put the door lock actuator back. Now the door can’t be opened from the inside or the outside because its locked. Do you know how to unlock it? Is there a button i can push by reaching my hand inside to unlock. Thanks

does this go for the majority of lexus?

NP always glad to help a Lexus owner

…. all is good. I should of seen your video before doing my actuator. At the time I didn’t have a gear puller so when I removed the gear, I placed the round part of a combination wrench over the gear and a flat screwdriver to pop the gear. I simply put the flat part of the screwdriver under the gear and used the round edge of the wrench as leverage. I should start video taping the jobs I do so others benefit from it. Ok, well keep up the good work. Laters.

Marty Henley says:

Wow, thanks for all your help. You have done a super fantastic and wonderful job of making this look easy. And with your help, it was just that,…easy!! Both front doors done in two hours, the second door went a lot faster, a little more experienced now. Thanks for the GREAT HELP!

nguyengs42 says:

its not but it makes some things easier like taking out your door handles

nguyengs42 says:

Also i was doing this based on the repair manual. But IMO taking out the glass isnt hard compared to taking out your door handle with the glass in.

nguyengs42 says:

yea its true put takeing out the window is only two bolts and its easier taking out the door handles with the glass out

jesusoc1974 says:

that glass breaks! Also if you do decide to disconnect the battery, disconnect the negative “black” cable. Anyways, great video.

jesusoc1974 says:

Awesome having people like you showing your talent and helping others at the same time. But there’s no need to remove the window and speaker if you have the window up. Also you don’t need to disconnect your battery, just disarm your alarm if it goes off. Just less work to do. Imagine

azink769 says:

You don’t need to take off the glass…..

also, I found another place to get FC-280PC-22125 and FC-280pt22125…

Surplus-Deal com (you know where to put the .) sells them for $6.99… gotta spend $10 on their website, but it sure beats having to use ebay and deal with that hassle.

profuse007 says:

damn. I don’t remember taking off the window glass though. not sure if that is necessary

shervinia says:

Hey you’re the man. I got it done in a couple of hours. Great job my man. Keep up the great work.

Answersization says:

Thanks for this diy!! I’m in the UK and you’ve saved me ALOT of money!!

azink769 says:

does anyone know if this motor will work for older models?

also – “tag16c” on ebay isn’t even the cheapest seller of the fc280pc-22125. 2 others sell the same model for cheaper… brand new.

LexusGSF300 says:

Ebay, The seller’s name is tag16c….search for “Mabuchi FC 280PT-22125”..buy 2 so you have a back-up 🙂

laingkalin says:

how do i get the motor for the replacemen Lexus GS400/300 DIY Door Lock Actuator ????

LexusGSF300 says:

Oh I broke the motor putting the gear on lol…had to buy a new one..but thanks for the Vid! it helped alot

Kiet Nguyen says:

If you can fit the spiral onto the gear it should be fine

LexusGSF300 says:

So I changed the rear passenger door & taking the door handle out took forever..
but now it works..TY, I have a question, I bent the pin on the new motor for the front driver side, but only a lil…will it still work if I install it?

LexusGSF300 says:

I have no idea I just hope after I change it, it doesn’t go out on me again -_-

Kiet Nguyen says:

its weird only my two front one is out i wonder why this is such a common problem on the gs series

LexusGSF300 says:

Great….I’ll let you know if I had trouble doing it, but I’m sure if I follow your steps I will be just fine. (TY CL)

Kiet Nguyen says:

Yea its the same the driver side door has a little more junk but its the same steps. I did both front door in an hour.

LexusGSF300 says:

Great video! If it wasn’t for this vid I was just going to leave my doors the way they were before I saw this vid posted on CL. I just order my motors & I will be doing my 2gen GS3 as soon as I get them. Just a quick question is the steps the same for driver door & rear passenger door?

Kiet Nguyen says:

Because with the glass in its harder to put back your handle, plus you have to take the window tracks out to remove the actuator
