Lexus ES330 cigarette lighter fuse replacement

Lexus ES330 cigarette lighter fuse replacement

A quick DIY on how to change the cigarette lighter fuse on a 2004-2006 ES330. The lighter is a 15 AMP fuse. I replaced it with a 20 AMP fuse.
The size is ATM or “mini” fuse. (Bussman fuse)

Absolutely agree – always replace the same size fuse, you are risking a fire. Also, don't squeeze the coin holder, open it part way, then pull up. There's less stress on the retaining pins.

Never, ever, recommend replacing an original value fuse with a higher current fuse. The fuse is rated that way to avoid excessive current draw for the wiring that is installed. The wiring is rated for 15 amps maximum and the 15 amp fuse protects it from damage. If you put in a 20A fuse, the wiring will try to carry up to an extra 5 amps and could fail, get hot and melt, or worse short out and cause a fire.

If your fuse blew because the tire inflator drew too much current, then you need to change the inflator to one that can draw under 15 amps – that's a lot of current and suggests the inflator is faulty, old, or the compressor is failing. ALWAYS replace fuses with the same value as recommended by the manufacturer – they are rated that way for a reason, to protect the circuit and the wiring from overloading and causing an electrical problem.
