A/C sucks air from the vent slits near your wiper blades. It goes through the A/C, gets cooled, then goes through the cabin air filter inside the glove box, then the air goes through the vents and out to your face.
The engine air filter filters air from the engine air intake. This air goes to the engine for combustion purposes. Also, it doesnt go into the cabin inside the vehicle.

Horrific. My window when left open here in San Francisco is Black with Carbon and Dust. How come people are using turbo spools now? Doesn’t it let more air into the combustion chamber? I don’t see an air suction device in my vehicle.
As you drive the air that you driver through flows into your vehicle. This is why when you live in a city that may be more smoggy it is a good idea to change your filter more often. If you like in the country where the air is less smoggy you can stick to the “once a year” cabin filter change.

The cabin air filter catches particles that get sucked into your system so that you don’t end up breathing them in. Its good to have one because it catches pollen and other harmful pollutants that get sucked into your vehicle before they reach you.
