Russ I have the same welder, I’ve moved on to gas with 8 and 6 mm wire, much much easier. Gas bottle hobbyweld 5 you will not go back to flux core.
I notice your welder can do both 'No gas' or gas mig welding. Have you checked the polarity of the welder when using flux core? The polarity is reversed when switching from gas to flux core. I'm guessing you have, but it could explain some of those holes.

If you have an air compressor you want your welding torch in one hand, your blower in the other to cool the weld down.(And your ball)
The foot is fastened to the sill by a bolt plate not individual nuts and bolts.
