Water is leaking on your Defender’s carpet? This episode is part of our Defender repair series.

In this video we will show you how we fixed our Defender water ingress issue on our Landrover Defender 2.4 TDCi Puma. If you own another type of Defender this operation should be very similar.
We will review the differents leaking points from door seal roof seal.

Here’s what you will need for repairing this Defender water ingress issue:
2x Sikaflex 521 UV polymer
1x caulking gun
1x tape

So take the time to check defender water leaks points in the video.

About Off-Track Family:

We are a family of 4 with 2 children. We are overlanding for years now on wild tracks in our Land Rover Defender 110.
Our expedition vehicle is a Land Rover Defender camper conversion. Some people say it’s more like a bug out vehicle but for us it’s the perfect 4wd off-road tourer with best 4×4 camping set-up.
We bought this 4wd rig brand-new in 2009 and the engine is the 2.4tdci Puma version. We transformed it time after time in a real overland 4×4 touring camper and it’s now a perfect off-grid truck for wild camping, bivouac or simply as an overlanding Defender.
We love enjoying time in nature and exploring the world as a family.

Really good video it's great that you point all the possible leak areas.

Find Everybeach says:

Please let us know, have the leaks stopped?

Mack F says:

I love Defenders but this is one reason I won't own one. Great video.

C Chung Lam says:

I couldn't get Sikaflex 521. Can I use Sikaflex 221 instead?

Mike J says:

Thank you for posting your LR and repairs and sharing your life style- I have used a similar product with 1995 Jeep YJ it is amazing how hard it is to find a small water leak and easy to fix once you find that small break in the seam- flexible UV sealant is the only way to go. If you are interested there is a gentleman from Canada that has a youtube channel and business called Briticanna Restorations. Mike has a wealth of knowledge from early series trucks to new 110 check him out. In his shop he sells a memory stick with all the services manuals and information he has been able to gather in 30+ years. I will enjoy watching the rest of your videos.

I love your videos, but Landrover = #rustbucket

secpac58chichi says:

you have dinosaurs in Switzerland ?

Feuz Patrick says:

It's a way but I don't like to put some more sealant on top of the old one.
The reason why many Defender a are leaking is that you all have to much weight on the roof. The light weight construction is not able to hold these weight excess. Even if you drive offroad their is to much movement in the whole cabin.

Some Dude says:

Will try this myself Thank you

Marco Savio says:

Great video, accepted that it is not meant to replace factory approved method of sealing but it is a good work around to stop further damage. Besides it looked like fun! And you get to try it out first so that we can judge the final finish…. thank you!

KABAOTTO EMULSION says:

Good job, bit ugly but hey better than water damaging body! Thanks

Fabio Punk says:

Not sure how long this will last.

ktmwheelie says:

That’s not e proper sealing. Its oke but you make some mistakes.

The roof is sealed with putty and you have to remove the old dried putty. As second take the tape straight away or may you lift the sealant and water will get in again…

MrBarryGE says:

Ouè c'est aussi à faire pour le miens

ramazan oksuz says:

you are a great couple

Yan Erik says:

Looks promising but I'm intrigued to know how it does after 5 years on the road in all weather conditions…

AGR Productions says:

Hi guys, well done, now the rain will not be a problem , interesting to keep in mid , thank you, thumb up for your video.

Richard Francis says:

Good idea. If you want a sealant for really small cracks – use 'Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure". It was developed for micro-leaks in caravans. Only one thing I would suggest – is a smaller application of initial sealant + going over again. That way – you don't 'splurge' as much which looks as noticeable when you remove the masking tape. I have a really bad leaking (perished) gasket between the screen surround and bulkhead. I was all set to remove the whole tub and re-do it, but I'll try this first. Might get a few more years before having to rebuild the top of the bulkhead.
