Been watching a few of your videos as I will be doing the repair myself in
a few days time, good to know the cams don’t need to come out, how did you
clean the engine block out by the way?
Is it safe to touch the top of the pistons? I assume so because it needs to
be cleaned out? how hard would it be to move the crank, it’s the only thing
that worries me. Thanks for quick replys to every message, big help indeed!
🙂
There you go I was always told that the only way the Head Gasket could be
done on this and the Rover 25 was a engine out job because of the bolts
going all the way down, I seen a perfectly good car scraped because of
that, now I know different thanks for showing that it can be done with
care, and by a guy that knows what he is doing.
@Liamautomechanic hi. I’ve got ok mechanical knowledge, worked around
machinery and farm vehicles for years. How hard is the HG to replace? Could
i attempt it myself? Ive watched lots of great videos including yours and
it look pretty straigh forward apart from taking the head to be skimmed if
its warped?
well u could skim the head only. and use the mod gaskit u see in the vid,
the spacer takes out the difference in the block, the car in the video is
still going strong. no skimming. on either.good luck.
I just did mine, and found that the block and the head had very slight
warpage ( I mean only a thou or two, I decided to take a chance and install
anyway, hoping that the new gasket will compress a bit more in some places
than others, to compensate the lack of perfect flatness of the mating
surfaces. I guess only time will tell if it’s gonna be okay… I wonder
what the tolerance is for warpage – any ideas?
Liamautomechanic , is this something i could try myself for the 1st time,
never worked on car engine before or better to get someone eles to do it, i
live in n.ireland how much would u charge lol
yes it was a lovely car to drive sat on the road really well just seemed a
shame that they never put a good head gasket on it to start with, so may of
them around here parked up in scrapyards all head Gaskits.

after cleaning the block, just blow out the pistons with a air line hose.
dont move the crank.
@Cattachmore22 too bad grand wee motor.all the same. i fixed a fair few
with the modified gaskit. seems to have cured the problem.

soft brass brush. and a piece of 80 grit send paper, and a wee piece of 2
by 1 wood.
@Cattachmore22 nicest wee car to drive the rover. just needed the modified
gaskit, fitted.
