Replace Air Suspension Compressor – Range Rover Sport or LR3 (Suspension Fault)

▼Parts and Tools Listed Below▼
How to replace a EAS air compressor assembly on a Range Rover Sport or LR3 2005-2009 to alleviate the “Suspension Fault Normal Height Only” error. Your suspension fault may be caused by a faulty air compressor if you have the fault code C1A20 “pressure increases too slow when filling reservoir”.

This replacement was one of the very first repairs I did on my car, and was required when the vehicle was about 7 years old. It may be possible to complete the repair for free or around 30$ if you buy a air dryer rebuild, but it’s likely you will need to replace the entire assembly to alleviate your problem.

Scanner that can read LR codes (like C1A20): https://amzn.to/2JEBR2p

Parts required:
Original Hitachi Compressor (best option, more expensive): https://amzn.to/2U5JSiM
Aftermarket compressor assembly (cheaper, shorter life): (https://amzn.to/32nBGiz)

I recommend getting a OEM Hitachi compressor because these will last about 70K miles, these will be $500-700 unfortunately, part #LR023964.

Tools required:
13mm socket or wrench (for battery terminal)
10mm socket or wrench (for plastic housing)
4mm Allen key (for the 3 bolts holding the assembly to the bracket)

Tool set I use that contains all above tools (https://amzn.to/2JL8ADq)

Optional items:
Compressor rebuild kit (https://amzn.to/2JJwvDg)

Works with RRS or LR3 MY 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009

I tried your method for removing the compressor from the bracket but my hands are just too messed up to maneuver and get at the top bolt – I ended up using a 10mm socket on a couple of extensions and taking the bracket itself off.

Don't forget to change the relay!

Hazy, I have a question. When I drive my Range Rover I feel like every single bump is felt. Also if I hit dips at an angle I feel like I’m gonna pop out of my seat. My steering wheel also vibrates when arriving at stops or at certain high speeds. Could it be my struts and if so which ones should I buy. It sits level and raises and lowers whenever push access height or standard so I don’t have any leaks on my bags

Front timing cover. My oil is leaking from there, how much will it cost me? Is it hard to do

Glenn Emery says:

When I look in the 2005 – 2009 Range Rover Sport Workshop manual I cannot find C1A20 – The error I find with the pressure increase error is C1A2064 – Is there a reason for the difference between the DTC codes and the one your OBDII reader is pulling?

When you reinstalled the 8mm and 10mm air line hose did you use specific fittings set inside the tubing or just hose to compressor?

HI i'm about to replace a compressor in my LR3. The original compressor was already replaced for a generic cheap brand with a different bracket. What can i look out for and what would i need besides the original bracket and screws for it
