Jon Love says:

I decided to install my Nexus 7 Android tablet into my car. I thought I
would share it with fellow Google Nexus 7 users.

I have written a bit about it and why I did it too:

Could u gve a breakdown on parts needed exc device and how to order thanxs

Samuel Better says:

Really good job. I like it..well done

Clove Technology says:

Personal opinion. The original can be refitted very simply.

Mancubus99 says:

Yes, but by having to scan the NFC tag I wouldn’t exactly call that
automatic since turning on the Wi-Fi requires a manual process. The method
I mentioned is 100% automatic. You don’t even need to take the phone out of
your pocket.

Clove Technology says:

1 x Google Nexus 7 1 x Google Nexus 7 Dock 1 x 3.5mm – 3.5mm audio cable
(goes from dock to car stereo) 1 x MicroUSB power cable (wired to car
electrics and connected to dock). These can not be ordered from Clove, it
is just an example of what can be do with such products.

anthony lester says:

This is roughly what the app looks like. this should be the link once it
goes live to test it Tablet Viper Demo in play store allows for key guard
to be enabled when ur car is off or disconnected from hotspot. that way if
some on does break in they will have a tough time unlocking ur tablet

Clove Technology says:

Yes, you can purchase replacement plastic vents to put the car back to
‘stock’ look.

Clove Technology says:

Sounds good. However i have this done automatically through the nfc tag, it
either turns wifi-tethering it on or off when I scan the tag.

Luis Amador says:

I’d do the same for my vehicles except I’d use a nexus 10

Clove Technology says:

It cost about £30 for the dock. The fitting can be done for near on£0 if
you are confident yourself to do it, but it will depend if you take it to a
professional. I got the electrical fitting done by a local in car audio
specialist and it took them just a couple of hours. Yes Bluetooth overrides
the tablets audio feed into the car stereo. Nice setup you have too.

is the original dash damaged too much for it to affect values come resale
time. Can the damage be repaired easily to ‘as new’ without great cost.
Never done a custom instal so dont know how much of a loss it will be at
car resale time but the dock thing installed is tempting as i hate the in
car dvd satnav that comes preinstalled. the preinstalled systems cant do
10% of what even a cheap tablet does. Will have to explore these docks for
the rear seats as entertainment system for kids.

veryannoyingname says:

I use my nexus 7 sometimes for in car navigation or sometimes as an in car
entertainment system with a wireless DVD drive / NAS but haven’t made a
custom permanent docking solution as want sure about the cost. How much
extra did it cost you excluding the tablet cost please. Where did you get
the custom install done and how long did they take to do the install. Does
the system get overridden by Bluetooth incoming calls over the car audio.

You might also like the other related mods like rear view cameras and DVRs
and apps among many others on my android car mods play list

Mancubus99 says:

Nice setup but here’s a tip to make your experience more seamless: Download
Llama location profiles from the play store (free) and then create a rule
on your phone that turns on your Wi-Fi tethering whenever your phone’s
Bluetooth pairs with the car. Similarly, it will turn off the tethering
when you leave the vehicle. I use this on my Android in car set up and it
works great!

Nice but not cool. Taking a Rang’s stock screen out. Thats stupid
