i was taught to step cut and shut style joins 50% top and 50% in the
oposite direction bottom kindof looks like the number =5= when done
corectly that was doing truck chassis
butt welding a chassis a bit cut and shut you need some overlap

what type of welder you use?

@supersubarujohndeere A little Lincoln weld-pak 100 with flux core wire.

You’re relying on a straight edge to edge butt weld keeping the chassis
straight where the new steel joins the old?
