Land Rover MOT Time – Rear Chassis Repair

Land Rover MOT Time – Rear Chassis Repair

Back between lockdowns 1 and 2 I had to get an MOT on the truck.
Unfortunately, what I thought would be a tiny welding job turned into a much bigger job than anticipated.
Luckily, a good friend was due to visit, a friend who has much better welding skills than me!
Much beer was drunk, and much welding was done!

The truck is now MOT positive! 🙂

** Not the best quality video I’m afraid. I was only shooting it on my phone for posterity, but there turned out to be enough footage to make it into a video at least a couple of people might be interested in! **

How much do welder charge? Could you please tell me how much they would normally charge for a repair like the one in the video? Thanks in advance

Cindy Holton says:

Great video guys! If the rust was caused by water being held in that part, would it not be sensible to drill a hole for future water to empty out?? Seems a simple solution to a simple mind like mine!! Cindy

Mr Trumpet, you're lucky to have a friend that likes to help out and seems like a good welder. If he played his cards right he could become well known on YouTube. All the best, and Gaudete! Mart.

NB MR BLUE SKY says:

where di i get on fof those grinder gards? haha

mike wareham says:

I would drill a nice drain hole in it at the lowest part to prevent a reocourance of the rust bucket syndrome

Mangetout says:

What is about LR's that people want them? They seem to fall apart, rot away and are not very reliable, what is the attraction when you can get a thing called a Toyota? I must confess I do like the look of them but the endless faffing about with them puts me off!

wjsj69 says:

I really hope you drilled holes for drainage, and treated the inside with something. Unless you don't mind doing it all over again soon. Well done otherwise. Loved the fuel dripping on the welder too : )
