Jay says:

Alex what do you charge on this your labor?

redcruben says:

It's supprising the lengths a company will go to forabit of extra cash. I had a berlingho many years ago, I noticed that only one of the two reversing lights was working. I got a replacement one only to find that there was never 2 bulbs in it, just to save money

Richard Burke says:

It's just like BMW an mini coopers

Tom Cobblie says:

This is land rover all over Pathetic !

neo 71665 says:

planned obsolescence should be illegal

Timmeh Little Loud says:

Looks like the holder and not the blade that was sticking. Did it not have a retaining pin to facilitate using the replacement holder that came with the fob case and just use the blade from the original.

H_tchet says:

need to knock out the pin holding the blank key blade in and put in the original key blade into the replacement flip mechanism, then it will open correctly

mark hull says:

The answer to "why" is the fob built that way, is so the customer will have to spend $1000.00 for a new fob, instead of a few bucks for a new battery. That's "why". Cheers.

Paul Young says:

The reason Land Rover chose to use this type of battery is because the cases are waterproof… It's a win loose situation tbh… However there are companies such as BMW that use the rechargeable batteries just to be awkward.

Mike Tan says:

Such practices are anti environment and should be outlawed not only in fobs but phones and everything else

Anon Anonme says:

As far as i know and googling range rover didnt recharge.
The battery had be replaced like this pita process or $$ at the dealer for another one and program $$$.
This is done to force you to the dealer and the right to repair issue.
I go through this shyte for my 2005 pontiac gto..

andy b says:

Why not show us what your doing ?? FJB

Howard the dot connector. says:

Fortunately my old audi has one key for the driver door thats mechanical.
So many electrical things have a mind of their own.
The fan on air-condition just comes on when it feels like. And audi said it would cost 60 pounds just to look into it.
I can at least change the fob battery and the engine management system is good

spannerman says:

Land Rover will sell you a bigger hammer for only $1000!

lynpatnat says:

I had exactly the same experience with a Hyundai i20 key fob. Even the blade siezed the same in the replacement case. It was still cheaper than an original item so worth the effort.

Buckhorn Cortez says:

It's British. They sealed it so it couldn't leak oil…

SAMRODIAN says:

Land Rover don't WANT you to open the fob and change the battery yourself. They want you to go to the dealer Aka stealers and for you to take your trousers down, then you bend over and they can fucking shaft you! That's why!

Ninder Ninder says:

use a angle grindee . or a chainsaw

sickophant says:

If you own an LR, issues with the key fob, are the least of your problems……………………lol
These are one of the most unreliable cars on the planet, and have a wide variety of serious faults………..

Darren Lesage says:

Why did you desolder the battery holder? Seemed very unnecessary.

Also, you could have filed down the shell so the key moved without restriction. You said the customer will just have to deal with it. Nice customer service, Jack.

9663ify says:

My theory of why they seal the battery in the key fob is to force customers to return to the dealership for a replacement. In the process they will also suggest doing service to the car while they’re at it. It seems like manufacturers are becoming more shameless with their money grabbing tactics
