What Land Rover discovery2 need is a reliable owner. A owner that reads the manual, twice at least. The coolant has a lifetime 2 years,not 10 years it needs to be changed. The oil should not be synthetic, the engine is from the 60’s it needs certain additives that are not in synthetic oils. If you own a disco buy the proper manuals, read it again and become a RELIABLE owner. Your unreliable discovery will love that and become much more reliable.

Turns out buy the turbo diesel td5 never look back

@davefish8107 says:

Not known to last , mine was a year 2000 model , used it , enjoyed it then sold it 3 years ago for the same price . Only sold it because it had engine modifications and done 17 miles on a gallon ,
and I could see that the fuel price was going to go up a lot

@harveysmith100 says:

The Rover V8 is a great motor but the accountants pushed things too far. It started off as a 3.5. It was reliable and could do high mileage no problem.
They then pushed it to 3.9 which was OK but it was on the limit of what should have been done.
Then someone who should know better pushed it too far, the 4.6.

@kirwankars8597 says:

The truck motors are NOT LS motors. They're Vortec (LT) truck motors. And sucks that you got the AFM engine. I was a Chevy service tech, and that engine WILL give you problems. 2006 or older Chevy truck motors are the way to go. Sorry to hear you wasted all your money.

@johnny-bj6ob says:

Always liked those and the Montero sports

@TillerMicroSkiffs says:

Got me a 2004 Td5 disco down in the carribean and have been doing a lot of work to get her back in shape. I wish we got the Td5 back stateside, looking to do a tune next!!! Makes me want to get one stateside to throw in a Cummins R28!!!

@freddyaguilar859 says:

The last 2 years of the D2 were 4.6. And those engines where bad. If you install a 4.6 p38 Range Rover engine it should be fine.

@kevinoliver3388 says:

You better have deep pockets and love leaks.

@keimolantio says:

Bought Toyota, my guess?

@eliasmora35 says:

the new ones are a joke

@broli85 says:

or just get a td5

@gianttodd1 says:

Wish there was a company that would buy these and sell with the swap done!

@andrewmcewan8081 says:

the rover v8 was no where near the buick engine rover bought , that why gm tried to buy it back after it had been improved at least twice and even contemplated leaseing the rights back at one point . this is the same method people use to make there squarebody's ect reliable ,but those who falsely believe in american exceptionalism can't contemplate that

@carlmenzel8744 says:

Yeh the only way to make it reliable sell and buy a Toyota

@gorgonbazil2652 says:

Chevrolet–synonymous with failure… A Cummins would be best,, Nice Disco!

@levimcfadden7276 says:

I can buy seven beater 4×4 trucks for way less. No thanks.

@glennpulford4860 says:

Nothing wrong with Rover V8’s.

@Gidenkidenk says:

I just removed my saggy headliner and bedlined it. Highly recommend

I have owned every model of discovery from the first through to 2000 D2. Loved the D2 but will never buy another one. The electronics let it down. I still own a 200TDI D1 and a 300TDI D1 and I am sticking with them. reliable as fruck and with over 350,000 Ks on the clock each still ticking along nicely. And they go anywhere these muscle cars go without smashing up the terrain doing it.

@bg3az says:

Nicely done. The stock 4.6 V8 was junk. I had two of those engines….in one vehicle, my 2004 Discovery. Sold it for parts after the block cracked in the second engine. Now I'm in a 2013 LR4/Discovery 4 but I'd go back to a 2004 D2 with a LS V8 in a heartbeat. I wish there was a professional shop that did these conversions for retail sale – I'd buy one.

@lloydholland6475 says:

Up too 1997 the discos are rangerovers in disguise, best 4×4 ever made and sought after .you won't find better

@TheDeathsentence123 says:

LS Swap you said? Thumbs down. Tired of seeing LS swaps into everything.

@jamesray3920 says:

He no longer owns this lrd2 he sold it on bring a trailer. There is tons of photos and more information on this build he got everything back he put in this d2 i wish i bought it but the ls swap not hard plenty of kits out here to do the swap i have always like the lrd2 styling im thinking of selling my jeep commander to buy a old school lrd2 i allready own 07 lrlr3 hse land rover are finicky vehicles can drive you nuts with faults , sweet rover d2

@adrianharrison5208 says:

Looking for one myself now and to be honest I'll just keep the engine stock
