Handy to know that this tool is available for a wide range of Land Rovers so doesn’t limit your choice when buying. For the price of a cheap Halfrauds toolbox this tool is worth ten times its weight.
just pay attension to where you are driving. ABS gets upset when a sensor is disconnected but if it is for a test once connected or cured then will reset and store the fault as historic.
Thanks – I’ll check the connector, but this car has had almost all its km’s as an on-road car, and being Australia, also the car has no visible corrosion except the exhaust pipes 🙂 I will try extending the ABS plug wires into the cabin and go for a small drive to test – hopefully this is not dangerous as far as the ABS ability is concerned.
other thing to check is the connection of the sensor, sometimes the pins can corrode up causing problems.
yeah thats the thing with Land Rovers they have driven hubs. I will spin a wheel ( or kick it around) but not possible unless the drive hub is disconnected, and see the voltage that occurs at the sensor with the mulitmeter should be over 2.0volts. There are a few guides on the internet if you google it specifically for Land Rovers. Best is to use a tester like what is seen in the video where a live reading is available so one can assess easier.
Thanks, is there a guide to what is the best way to test this ABS Sensor? I have a digital multimeter, but nothing more fancy than that. When I replaced the brakes a few months ago, I pulled the ABS sensor and checked for obvious issues, but everything was clean and tight at the sensor end on the hub.
The code (?) is directing you towards the ABS sensor LH front. Wording must come different depending on diag. reader. You could have a poor contact on the connector or low sensor voltage generation…this could be an air gap too large or wiring….. Voltage generation will tell you a lot about what is going on.
My ODBII diag says front left wheel sensor rough road fault detected (or words to that effect) – does this mean an ABS sensor fault, or likely to be a worn hub? I don’t want to throw parts at it in the hope it turns off the lights – Also there is a slight clicking/creaking noise from under the dash and can be felt through the brake pedal when braking normally – something really subtle – a symptom of the three amigos, or a secondary fault? Seriously considering this tool nonetheless… 🙂
two things to check. do you have a constant supply to the relay…if not, check fuses or connections.
Check switch power supply to relay,..if not present with the switch supply on then check the switch power supply. If power is present in the relay suppliers then is the earth on the relay functional? Is the current to the clutch on the compressor there?
Just a few things to think about. Key is to see and chase where the power is ans isn’t.
hello my 97 disco ac/ on/off bottom is not working and cooling are not turning on i replace the relays but nothing any help and info than you guys
Not for me mate… I’m early 300tdi material .. although we are considering an upgrade sometime next year engine wise … just got to see how the misses gets on with her changing work needs…
yeah could be sold along with the vehicle ,..good selling point. The OBD is here to stay. even if your decide to get a different make of car the stuff learned through these tools is handy and worth its weight… you going to buy one Matt?
That’s all I needed to know… It’s not going to be as expensive as buying another one I’m assuming … and even if it was its a great selling point on flogging your old motor…
thanks, glad you found it so..
thanks Robin thing you want us to cover on this diag. system?
cheers!
if there is anything you’d like to see us cover let me know.
you just get another unlock to open for another model of vehicle. Not sure the price though.
I think its a fantastic price… The diagnostic software at professional level to cover all those vehicles is considerably more expensive from anyone else that I’m aware of…
I do like that you can have a cheaper version locked to your own motor… However it begs the question as regards what happens if you swap from a disco to a defender … will they change it FOC or are you buying a new unit to suit?
well done; and thank you again you make posible for poor fellas like me to onw and repair this cars
good stuff
Another great and helpful video on a bit of kit and process, well done Chris
yes unfortunately it is but will save money in the long run.
very interesting
Expensive tool!
