Mine is doing the same, But I know Why, I been mudding too much and on deep
muddy water so it most be dirty inside. I got a new starter but it’s not a
big deal, just take a part and lubricate all moving parts except for
electric parts, And U should be fine!!
Clean her. She has been a dirty, dirty girl. (I am talkin about the
starter…)
what happens if u use a piece of wood against the gear to load it? the
shaft may not be driving the gear? stripped inside?

replaced the drive it might be sliding clucth with load it will not turn
your flywheel
