Hi, can I just put the heat pad on top of my cloth seat and put leather
seat cover over my seat? do I still need to drill a hole on my seat? In my
case what should I do? do I still need to take off my seat?
Installed this kit in the driver’s seat of my 2014 Ford Focus (w/leather)
today.
Not so difficult, except for extracting and replacing the seat (it’s
powered, so I couldn’t adjust it after I’d disconnected the battery.) The
pads are a bit wide for the seat back in my car, but managed to fit. Very
good video that gave me great tips! Thank you! BTW: Hog Clips are evil to
reinstall!
Why did you not vacuum up all that dirt when you had the seat out?????
If those are cloth seats are they susceptible to water shorting them out
should coffee or water spill on them?

Watch out with disconecting the negative pole on modern cars. If you
disconect the battery you possibly reset some computers. So your head unit
may ask for a code wich is hard to find.

Great video! Just a question: When tapping the seat into a fuse port, will
that one tap send power to both seats, or just one? If not, can you power
two seats from the same fuse or will that create a power overload?
can you put this in a 04 single cab sierra but put 2 and hook up all too
one switch/power source?

If you noticed the kit came with a fuse tap, he was just following
instructions..call Dorman if you have a problem with that.

Before I go taking out my seat real quick do you know how BMW upholstery is
attatched? I have a 98 323is base model and heated seats were a option.
Also, could I use factory BMW heated seat switches if the electrical is
done correctly?

The seat heater only draws about an amp of current, which is not enough to
pop the circuit breaker, even when run in parallel with the window motors.
The seat heater has worked great since installing it in this video and I
have not had a single issue.
Correct, this car was a pretty basic vehicle, no fancy airbags on this one.

@premomh It’s definitely doable, but you would lose your high and low
settings. The way the circuit is set up, when the heater is in low
position, the current runs through both heater pads in a series-style
circuit, when it’s in high position, it runs them in parallel. So the only
way you could wire a single heater pad per seat would be straight to the
12V source (through a switch of course), which would in turn put the heater
pad on High whenever it is on.

I think you mean just sitting them on top of the seat and then you sitting
directly on the pads? They aren’t really designed to work that way, they
would likely become too hot without that layer of fabric between you and
the heating element. But I could be wrong, If you give it a shot, please
let us know the outcome of how it works. Thanks!

Thanks for the video! One question I’m thinking about getting the kit but I
was wondering how hard (in your opinion) it would be to splice it out so
that each pad is on 2 separate seat bottoms (driver’s and passenger’s –
just on the seat part not lumbar – then wire it up with 2 separate switches
that I would purchase separately).. I was trying to get a closer look at
the wiring but it was a little tough to see exactly. I own a 99 Jeep
Wrangler.I have above average mechanical/electrical skills.
Also could you do a vid of hardwiring it into the fuse box??
This particular kit is designed to only work for 1 seat at a time. Each
seat requires a separate switch to be hooked up. I am sure something custom
can be made with the wiring, but the kit wasn’t technically designed to
operate like that.
@ndchevy Unfortunately we probably can’t do a video on it at this time, but
it is fairly simple to hardwire it in. You just need to find a thick power
wire going to the fuse box that only has power when the key is turned on,
you would then splice the main power wire into that wire. If hardwiring, I
would recommend soldering the connection.
