Great video. Bought a Valeo alternator rebuilt kit which has new brushes,
Slip ring and bearings. You’re video helped a lot, many thanks 🙂

Mohamed Farouk says:

Thanks a lot for your detailed and helpful video.
My car is a 1.2l 16v D4F Renault Clio using the Valeo 14V 95A SG9B035
alternator. I have a faulty one kept as a spare part for the one already
running but I am welling to fix it. How can I check its rectifier and
regulator. I tested the stator winding for continuity and earth short
circuited and both where fine. I need to know how to check the regulator
and the rectifier. Also when it rotates, a scratch noise occurs twice due
to a small friction between the stator and the rotor, is this due to a bad
ball bearing or something else? . I really appreciate your help and Thank
again for your video.

David Chambers says:

Great video: EASy for you but not most people I’m sure.

Martyn H says:

Nice video Westronicslrl. My BMW has a Valeo alternator and it looks very
similar to the unit that you fixed. I’m just going to swap out the voltage
regulator entirely for a new one ($69) as that’s a lot easier than
replacing the brushes (in my opinion)..

Great job man! Greetings from germany…

mario d.c says:

very nice video i really liked the details but i would like to know where
do you buy the new brushes ?

Hub Schoenmaekers says:

Life saver!

For a 2000 Renault Laguna:
A replacement alternator goes up to 240 Euros
A refurbished alternator would set me back around 120 Euros
Now it only cost me 10 Euros for the new brushes and since I have little
tools another 10 Euros in labour to get them soldered in place.

Thanks for sharing

Excellent stuff and thank you so much.

John Mclane says:

Great video!!
I am about to do this on my car as it has stopped charging the battery.
But I have a question.
Is it not better to buy a new regulator which includes new brushes to solve
this problem?
Say that the problem is worn out brushes and you replace them. What if the
regulator (electronics) breaks after a couple of hundres miles and you have
to do it all over again?
In my case I have a VW Passat -01 and it is a bit of work to have it
removed.
What do you recommend?

Thanks for the post, I needed an alternator so I just bought a new one but
after seeing this I might inspect the old one, order brushes and return the
new one!

I asked a local mechanic to replace the brushes in my LS1, the idiot
started wining for minutes about it like a 5 yearold girl forced to eat the
beans and jelly!. proposed to do it for over $200

than $10

I worked this out myself but I really appreciate you taking the time to
demonstrate how it’s done. As for the slipring replacement in your other
video, your advice is invaluable, I’m buying the repair kit off you right
now. Gold Lion Auto Electrics on ebay, right? Take note, folks, this is
good honest old school stuff!
