thern buddy you did hurt your hand mechanic`s price but great video thank you very much

Merle Stethem says:

A truly awesome video. Frankly those folks like us who drive a 2013 Soul aren’t sitting on a lot of money. Unfortunately I was past the extended warranty date and the local dealer wanted $185 to diagnose the problem. I’m sure they would have charged another $300-$400 to repair. I’m not a car guy but your video was so well done that it convinced me that I could do it. Thanks so very much!!

Brad V says:

Great video thank you. Saved me the hassle and money of taking it to a mechanic. I would recommend that the job be done with a helper otherwise you covered all the bases. Thanks again

Jarvis Edwards says:

Great video, thanks for sharing. One question, what year is the kia soul in the video?

Jim Lahey says:

Worked for me, thank you. I am an electrician, mechanic and contractor for 30 years and this was a pain! Recommend paying a dealer or shop to do it!

Leah Partin says:

I'm having the same exact issue on my Kia soul! I'm afraid of doing something to make the air bag come out!!!!

Jon Mote says:

Great video! This was by far away the best of them of YouTube. Getting the column reseated in that bracket was the worst! After a couple of hours I had to give up on it until the next day. After a good night's sleep, it took me about 10 minutes. The one problem is that during the "difficult time", the column came apart in two pieces. I must not have gotten the gears notched up just right because the steering wheel is every so slightly askew. I'm not going to worry about, the clunk is gone!

joseph luciano says:

What year was this car

BradHawk1900 says:

Does anybody know if this issue is the same with the newer gen 3 kia soul? I have one, and the steering used to feel tight, but now I can move the wheel with 1 finger, and there are slight vibrations while driving. My dealership claims there isn't a problem, and I took it to another mechanic who said everything was good to go on the alignment and the major steering components.

Larry Feaster says:

And I didn't mention….shit falls out (and continues to fall) that I have no frickin idea where it goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Larry Feaster says:

BULLSHIT!!!! I consider my self a pretty fair mechanic but this is a job no one should try at home. Do yourself a favor and take it to a dealer and let them deal with it. Half the bolts you can't even see!!! and the bolt that is, according to this guy, is a "little hard to get to, but not too bad". Again..BULLSHIT!!! Its impossible to get to!! This ain't no shade tree mechanic job, And go ahead and try to unhook the airbag. Say goodbye to your head.

Mr. C says:

I have a 2010 Soul Sport with 127k on the clock. Vehicle developed a steering twitch after a curveside collision (R front wheel). The impact was strong enough to bend the (R) tie rod end and front strut. Replaced both tie rod ends and both struts. Had new tires installed and a 4 wheel alignment.

Soon after, the steering twitches occurred whenever going over certain bumps, road gaps or ruts. I returned to the same tire center and explained what was happening. The same 2 technicians double checked the alignment (20-25 minutes) as well as checking the wheel bearings for wear. They couldn't find anything under the car that could cause the steering twitch, so I went ahead to check the steering coupler!

Well, after dropping the steering column and having a clear view of the steering shaft assembly. I was unable to locate nor could see what even resembles that steering assist module! There was nothing but the steering shaft, a U joint connected to another shaft leading to the fire wall.

After several minutes trying to locate where that rubber coupler could go, I simply reassembled the steering column/lower dash.

Any ideas or thoughts why my 2010 Sport would not have that steering assist module under the dash?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the video! Watched it 3 times. I took my 2013 kia soul to the dealership but unfortunately I missed the warranty window and now the dealership is asking for $600-700 hundred. I'm going through a tough time right and can't really afford the service. I did buy the part though, it was only $3.50 lol. Worst case scenario if I don't get this fixed? Thanks!

Devin Harrell says:

I did everything but now my ignition won’t turn? Please help

Devin Harrell says:

That big bolt at the bottom is kicking my ass for the life of me I can’t get it to tighten

Cosmo627 says:

What happens if your steering wheel locks up after you disconnected your battery (for the airbag reasons)???

Garnell Walls says:

I have watch a lot of video's and this is the best one I have seen on this type on repair. Thank you man Great video.

PolarVajra says:

Did anybody else’s power steering stop working after this?

saul martinez says:

Anyone have any tips on how to get the bolt on the back to go in. It feels like it doesn't go in. Everything looks aligned

thechad865 says:

So what is the functional purpose of this little piece? Like, if I never do anything about this will it become a safety issue?

Ukraine is miracle of World says:

Thanks dude. Great vid. I got why steering wheel knocking.

Ivan Brito says:

This was awesome

Mike Hardy says:

Hey I just did that job and you can pull that steering wheel completely off and that made it easier to line that back piece up

MegaTone Silva says:

Awesome video. I'll be replacing this coupler in a couple weeks on a 2012 Kia Soul.

In regards to the 14mm bolt, will a 3/8" extended reach Milwaukee m12 electric ratchet be able to access this bolt? I'd like to just hit the lever on my eRatchet and let it do all the work rather than me having to manually break it loose and finger spinning the bolt out by-hand (I'm lazy like that).

Also, will a Milwaukee m12 stubby impact wrench be able to access the two 12mm bolts with deep socket and minimal socket extension?

I notice a lot of details in the videos I watch (even noticed the odd sound at 16:25 . One thing I'm curious about is the steering angle position.

With the column unbolted, you rotated it counterclockwise. The front wheels are on the ground, they are not going to turn to the right, rather the steering column will (relatively speaking) "turn to the left (if that makes sense)". Then…….

You pulled the electric motor off the column, and with motor removed, you moved the steering wheel a bit. You recentered the steering wheel before you bolted the electric motor back on……..did you get it right where it needed to be or did you have to reset the steering angle sensor?

I also plan on removing the front seat to make things easier. I've worked on vehicles long enough and hate having to become a temporary contortionist just to accomplish tasks under the dash. I've got plenty of power tools and can have the seat removed in a minute or two.

Oh and yes, any yellow electrical connector on a vehicle is associated with the air bag system.

Any length of yellow wire harness means that the length of harness contains wires inside it which can deploy any airbags and seat belt pretensioner cartridges if 12 volts are applied to one or more of the particular wires within the harness.

iris baez says:

Tips: use gloves. don't horn the car, 'cause you wake up my Dog. last one: maybe you don't need to drop the steering wheel.

frankie says:

Thank you very much. Best video out there. Had it done about as long as this video. Great job.

SimplyRajaNee says:

Me and my husband just completed this on my 2013 Kia would and my piece was completely shredded. Took us 3 hours to complete but saved us $150 from my local mechanic so all in all very happy. Thanks for this video

Nick Rosenbaum says:

I have a 14 optima and this video although some thing a tad different still basically the same concept I was able to knock this out in under 45 mins and the shop wanted to charge me 600. 14 bucks and 45 mins of time saved me so much
