And here is an aftermarket alternative

And the OEM Kia PN is 81230-C5100 if you prefer to get it from a dealer.

Today we’re working on a 2016 Kia Sorento SXL (limited) with the power lift trunk hatch. The process should be the same for a 2016-2020 year model with the power lift trunk. This issue usually starts as a failure to close meaning the trunk will not latch when it closes and instead pop’s back open. Sometimes the issue will start with the trunk hatch not opening and having to crawl through and use the manual release. I’m really responsive in the comments if you have any questions.

I have a kia sedona , It is the same motor ?

Thank you so much!!! This video saved me hundreds of dollars. I was able to change it by myself after watching this video.

Ivan Windon says:

I just had the same problem. Ordered the OEM part and the replacement went smoothly. However the motor won't actuate. The whir you would hear after it closes, and if you release it, it won't open automatically. The only difference is at least it will actually latch if you close it manually. Before it wouldn't even do that. Any idea what is causing the motor portion not to work? Could it be a bad relay, or something else I should look at?

Mary Lou Venable says:

Your video walked us thru replacing the latch seamlessly! It took less than 45 minutes. THANK YOU!

Steven Maxey says:

Got mine installed following your instructions. Thanks buddy!

Kevin Johnson says:

My dude, you are a life-saver! My lift gate started to do the same thing, followed the steps in your video, it's all fixed and I saved a trip to the dealership (and paying twice the cost of the replacement part)!

Scott Longdon says:

Outstanding instructions and complete with OEM part number! Exactly what I was looking for, nice work!!

Tara Chiapelli says:

Any chance you have a suggestion for getting that screw out? It’s just spinning

Martin Banderas says:

Need a part # for my 2015 Kia Sorento Lx , Manual one.

Ibrahim Ali says:

Hello, I have a question. I have 2015 Kia sorento EX and my trunk door wouldn't open. It's manual trunk door. I tried to open it from inside and when I turn the latch switch It's unlock the door but get locked again when I let it go. The only way to open the trunk to turn the switch, hold it with my finger and to push door out. Do you think I have to replace the trunk latch?

DJ Mcfadden says:

Did this issue happen to drain your battey? This happened last week and we are waiting for an appt at the dealer(Warranty) and the battery died on me. I charged it and it was good but then it was dead after sitting over night again.

Kenny Redd says:

Thanks for the video Bro, the latch stopped working on my wife’s Kia and they wanted to charge her $110 just for the part at the dealership. I was able to order the lock of Amazon for $35 and fix the lock in about 10 mins.
