I can see the connector in the video but not 100% where they lead. I
believe two connectors plugged together right there and then attached to
the metal bracket. If you didn’t have a check engine light on before you
changed the plugs then I would guess the connectors are for the O2 sensor.
You might try and follow the wire from the sensor up to where that
connector is. Google 02 Kia Sedona plugs wires images. There is a pic “1
intake pushed to side” about half way down the page. See if it helps.
hi 98eck i just changed my pluggs i watch your video berore thank you by
the way 1 problem if you stop your video at 330 to the left of your hand i
have a wire dont no where it plugs in isee up front but i dont no where in
the back it has a see thru plastic end small please help and my check
ingine lght s on auto zone say o2 senser
I’m about to tune my 2004 Sedona. I may make a vid since there aren’t many
on the tube. I already finished the timing belt but didn’t think to make a
vid.
I HAD FOUND PLACE WHERE THEY CHARGE ME $ 158 FOR 6 PLUGS IN MY MINIVAN. MY
HAS ONLY 57.000 MILES, OTHERS $ 200,398,450. DONT YOU THINK ITS A LOT OF
WORK,TO SAVE $ 100 OR 200? EVEN MORE, THEY GIVE YOU GARRANTY ON THE JOB.
WHAT GARRANTY WILL YOU HAVE, DOING IT YOURSELF,IF SOME THING GOING WRONG?
FOR A MECHANIC ITS OK,BUT FOR PEOPLE WHO DOESNT KNOW ABOUT MECHANIC,NO WAY.
Well then I guess I’m on par with normal. Seems to take me about twice the
amount of flat rate time the first time I do something new. You work at an
independent or Dealer? What’s the shop rate?
Glad it helped. It’s not the best video but once I was in there trying to
figure it out (After not finding a video) thought if I could show someone
else what needed to come out it might help.
Ya, If you do and think about it make one. I didn’t think about making one
until I was part way through. Couldn’t find what I was looking for on
YouTube so this is what I came up with. I know it’s not the best but it
gives you an idea of whats involved.
Labor for this at the shop I work at is 3 hours..
@bigcaseyball1 I tried to hit reply but it’s not working. Anyways I’m not
sure if it’s identical or not but looks similar. I found a link to a 2008
Kia Optima for ya. Type “Spark Plug Change on 2008 Kia Optima” into the
Youtube search. It wouldn’t let me post a link. Hope that helps.
hi, i have a 2004 kia optima lxv6 with DOHC and i was wanting to know if
its the same as this. thanks
@ThePariss333 I took my 2002 to KIA dealer and they wanted $800 to replace
sparkplugs. I think this video will save me a whole bunch. That includes
the coil for the 6 plug.
I think they were NGK but not 100% sure now. This was a freinids van so he
brought me the parts. When you go to the parts store ask them what OEM
plugs are for the vehicle.
LET ME ASK YOU: DO WE NEED TO CHANGE ANY FUEL FILTER? HOW YOU CHANGE THE
DRIVE BELTS? MAKE A VIDEO FROM THAT. I SEND IT,TO REPLACE THE TIMING BELT
TOO EARLY AT 52.000 AND THE DEALER WANTS $ 689+ TAX, I SAW IT TO EXPENSIVE
AND I WENT TO OTHER FACILITY AND IT WAS A REAL MESS, YOU CANT IMAGING. I
SPEND 2 WEEKS WITH THOSE PEOPLE AND AT THE END I HAD TO PAY MORE. CAUSE
THEY ONLY CHANGE THE BELT AND NOT THE TENTIONER AND ALMOST LOOSE MY MOTOR.
SOME TIME IS NOT GOOD AT ALL GO AWAY FROM DEALER.
i did not mean any bad,, i do thank u for trying to help us ,i just could
not understand how did u got to the back plugs,, and did not show the the
firing order,, again thank u much, and sorry about my coment
@bigcaseyball1 The guy’s youtube user name is: AustinAuto4000
LIKE I SAID BEFORE. THE DELAER HERE IN LAS VEGAS,CHARGE ME $450 FOR 6
SPARKS, AND I CHECK AROUND AND OTHER FACILITY ASKED $ 154, 250, EVEN $389.
I WOULD LIKE TO DO IT BY MYSELF,BUT LOOKS COMPLICATED. THE FRONT PART IS
NICE AND EASY,BUT NOT THE BACK PART.
sorry ,poor video,,u did not show any thing
@hamada966 Yep.
Thx for video, I am very experienced DIY er but I gave up trying to remove
the 2 bolts on that back Y bracket. I am good at getting stuck bolts in
tight places but the ones on my Kia are crazy tight in a crazy tight spot.
Mine is mis-firing and needs new wire. Your video was very helpful to me as
I was not sure where those back bolts needed to come off.
Yes. The top part is what I call the manifold. So surge tank=manifold. I
had to replace that top gasket (it actually looks like it has 7 holes) and
think it was called the Upper intake gasket. You have to remove the surge
tank to get access to the plugs. The delivery pipe stays in place. The
Throttle body is behind the surge tank by the surge tank stay(s). Had to
remove it to get the surge tank out I believe.
@3xyooj Yes.
independent…
Its way to much work but doing it yourself saves you $300
@ThePariss333 I don’t know what you would break changing spark plugs that
would be that expensive. Dealerships charge between $90-$100 flat rate
(usually), independent shops are about $80. Going through the dealer you
will probably pay about $10/plug. To do this you also have to remove the
upper intake so there’s the cost of a gasket. Probably $50? You are already
above $100 in parts, plus 4hrs in labor=$500. Think we spent $12-plugs, 18
for both gaskets, $100 for plug wires (advance)=$130
hey thanks for the vid. i should probably make some of my own so others can
learn from my mistakes…. and save them the time and brain damage ,
right…
You’re welcome. Ya. I probably should’ve made some stuff a little more
clear or shown more but you get to see what to expect when you take it
apart. The best tool for learning is from your mistakes, cause you never
forget or you see what not to do.
Did you have to remove the intake manifold? My service manual call the
“surge tank” what you refer to here as the “plenum.” It looks like there
are three gaskets one might have to replace: two three-hole-gaskets for the
intake manifold (if you need to remove it, thus my 1st question) and one
6-hole-gasket for the surge tank/plenum. You mention one might need a
“throttle body gasket,” I don’t see that in my manual. Can you match up
your language with what I am reading in my service manual?
@ThePariss333 Your minivan is a Kia Sedona?
geez what a pain in the as* just to to change the plugs
Ya, I should have started at the beginning but didn’t think about making
one until I had already started taking it apart. I removed the cover and
the intake and was trying to show the bolt locations of the bolts I had
already removed.
@hamada966 The comment is fine. I just needed to know what you were trying
to see. To get to the back plugs you have to remove the intake. Firing
order is 1-2-3-4-5-6.
@TheSlammed if not more. Labor quote is about 4 hrs. Labor at the dealer is
about $400, independent shop would be about $320…just labor. You go
factoring in dealer part prices and you save that much more.
