I also have a 2009 Hyundai Accent bought brand new, no air, manual shift,
no radio and no power widows . I use 10w30 oil and a fram extra guard oil
filter. I have been changing the oil & oil filter every 5000 miles. I have
68,000 miles runs like a champ! 38 MPG HWY

George Vassallo says:

thanks for sharing!

Thanks for a great instructional video! If you fill the filter with oil
before you install it you can avoid that horrible rattle when you first
start the car after the oil change.

ThePariss333 says:

I respect your decision and whatever you want to do with your car, but let
me tell you what happened to me. My soul 2012 came with a horrible noise
when starting, I took it to Dealer 3 times,4 days every time and they never
found any thing, but the first thing Kia customer asked to services agent
was: DOES IT HAS OEM FILTER ON?, Thanks God I just made two oil change in
other Kia Dealer so they use the original filter. now its your choice with
federal trade commission

NHA says:

You really should look at kiaowners or soulhamsters for the info on using
KIA Factory oil filters. They convinced me at I got one from the dealer
today. Also, I would at least use synblend oil its barely more money these
days.

GoddessLian says:

Kia recently put out a notice saying OEM filter may not generate enough oil
pressure at start up. And they will not cover damage related to the use of
OEM filters.

George Vassallo says:

Thanks! As long as the temp doesn’t go below -20 F where your at your good
to use either.

Chester Wardan says:

The owners manual calls for 5w20 synthetic. Not 10w30.

George Vassallo says:

Thanks for watching! This is the second time someone mentioned putting oil
in the new oil filter next change going to try this!

Allen Yee says:

It’s compatible but doesn’t mean it meets KIA specification. OEM company
wants you to buy their product, compatible simply means it will fit. I
would use a KIA genuine filter, they’re high quality stuff. I think some
guy cut one open and the material inside and the number of pleats (surface
area) was amazing. Plus, they only cost about 4-5$ each.

George Vassallo says:

Thank you Sir! Means a lot too me you understand and also care to share
your experience. I just want to show any one interested in changing their
own oil on the Kia soul and how easy it is, pull up on some ramps and real
time 15 mins or less to change the oil. I have to do the research on the
EVO system engine running @ 1200rpms going 45mph on a flat surface I
believe it has to do with the valve timing.

Michael Novelozo says:

mine doesn’t look like that what should i do?

George Vassallo says:

your welcome! Great Idea I am going to try this, never heard of this before
make very good sense!

KRAYSLiCK999 says:

you forgot to prime the oil filter a few seconds with out oil on a cold
start can be a silly mistake that will cost you 4 or even 5 digits.. BTW
AWESOME VID 😀

ThePariss333 says:

Also, my Elantra is making 38 to 40 MPG in hwy, very good and now I’m
taking care of it, put it attention to any thing Dealer or shop do in my
car, I don’t trust any more.

Susan Sotelo says:

Gracias amigo esto es mas facil de lo que yo pensaba. Jorge K5JAS

George Vassallo says:

Thanks, I learn something new every day. It makes sense now. The valves do
get noisy for a couple of seconds.

George Vassallo says:

In the service manual does read that one can use 10 w 30. Also a non OEM
usage filter, why would the manufacture of the oil filter list
Compatibility with my vehicle?

qwantez r says:

nice come back george so……should i do 10w 30 or 5w 20 or does it not
matter which i use

betatalk357 says:

Would changing your own oil void the manufacturer’s warranty? What if the
dealership saw you had a non- OEM filter on your car?

George Vassallo says:

I changed oil @2900 miles then @ 7800 miles right now I have 9000 miles. I
am going to change oil every 5000 miles I get 31mpg on the hwy have the EVO
system. The Soul runs fine.

Disregard that last comment, I didn’t read the description. Still getting
use to this new YouTube app.

IMFDB says:

On modern cars u could put the car in clear flood mode by flooring the
pedal and starting the engine. It’ll crank but won’t start. By doing that
for a few seconds ur turning the oil pump and priming the filter safely. I
only do it if it’s a giant oil filter to prime or the engine’s not at
operating temperature. Don’t think there’s a clear flood mode on diesel
engines though.

ThePariss333 says:

Adding: At the Dealer, they told me that Kia customer services will never
cover me if I put aftermarket or any thing other than Kia parts, after
100.000 miles I can do wherever I want, before no way. Mi kia Sedona 2004,
I went to other shop and installed timing belt, 5 days later big problem,
when back to the shop and was told Kia has to cover for tensioner, I went
to the Dealer and they told me, sorry we can not put our hands there, take
it back to those who mess with your van, that’s it.

George Vassallo says:

Thank you for informing me, maybe you have the 1.6 liter. I have the 2.0
liter engine

DMW1234 says:

FYI, Google KIA Oil Filter TSB to see the that TSB Kia put out recommending
using Hyundai filters to avoid leakdown causing problems at startup with
the CVVT system.

George Vassallo says:

Look at the link above about what the federal trade commission sez.

ThePariss333 says:

You welcome. Let me add a little more. The Dealer wants to charge me like $
650 plus tax for the timing belt in my last Kia Sedona 2004, for me it was
too much, so I went to other place and they mess it up completely and then
that shop asked for more money, so I ended paying more for timing belt and
tensioner. This time I have a Hyundai Elantra 2008 and took it to the
Dealer and not listen to people, so wherever happen they did the job, so
they cover me.
