Thanks so much. You saved me $360. I’m not mechanical at all, but I’d watch
about a minute of the video, then run out to the driveway and work on the
car, come back in watch another minute, run back to the driveway. Wasn’t
that hard at all with the video.
Outstanding
Josh…I leave the steering pump in position, loosening its mounting bolts
(through the pulley holes) to provide clearance at the water pump’s flange
attachment point. The 4.0L shop manual calls for steering pump removal to
provide a straight fit of the water pump to the gasket and block. I loosen
the power steering pump bracket and carefully angle the water pump in and
out, without damaging or dislodging the gasket during installation. If you
want more clearance, remove the power steering pump.
My 2001 cherokee has not been driven (much) since 04-12 (now 1-13) My
waterpump pulley started sqealing louder since I started driving it in
December I adjusted the belt but still makes noise. I was wondering if the
bearing was going bad. But as I type this maybe I should have just have the
WP changed out as insurance 4.0L 166,000 miles Good video Thanks
Is this how you do it in the 97 Grand Cherokee? Or is there any difference
because it pretty much looks the same except I’ve been told you’ve gotta
take the power steering pump out
Replacing the water pump at high mileage is always a precaution worth
taking. Aside from the pump bearing, you have the risk of a seal
failing—for a Jeep, that can be at a remote place! Glad you like the video,
you’ll find Q&A “vlogs” now available at the 4WD Mechanix Magazine’s 4WD
Mechanix Video Network. Enjoy the magazine site as a source for Jeep and
4×4 truck how-to and tech…Happy New Year!
Thank you.
You’re welcome!—Moses
