I’d say so. It’s not sailcloth and is a little thinner feeling material but
it is still strong and tight. On a side note, the window tint is not as
dark as factory although at least for me that is a plus. It is dark enough
that I can still see out of it which was a complaint I had with the
original being too dark. that at night I couldnt see to back up.
I used this video as a guide when installing my new Smittybilt softop on my
’98 Wrangler. The video was a great guide, thank you. The Smittybilt top is
as good or better than the OEM top. Make sure you do your replacement on a
sunny hot day so the top will stretch. Already had fun driving in the sand
at Carova Beach.
hey Erica , was there a lot of stretching to get this top on or did it go
fairly easy. Reason I ask is because they say that you should do it in a
garage that is heated or at least warm since this will help with the
installtion .Just wondering because I am in NJ and it’s maybe 50 degrees
today .
@Mannix08215 It was about that temperature, maybe a tad warmer, when I put
mine on… The warmer the better. I wouldn’t go any colder because you risk
cracking or tearing the top. If you are in a heated garage you should be
cool. A hair dryer can give you that extra stretch too, just use common
sense and don’t burn the top. Happy Wheelin’!
This was definitely helpful- but also did not give the full picture of how
difficult it can be. I replaced my 99′ soft top, and all the screws were
rusted up. It also took me awhile to figure out what exactly to do with the
screws- it took me like 2 hours with help; this video made that part look
super easy. Also, I am having trouble figuring out how to attach the back
window- i can’t get the zipper to align!
is the smiity bilt top a good quality replacement?
Hey roachekevin29 try putting your rear window in first. When you put the
Tonneau corners on you should be able to grab them with both hands and
rotate them slightly to accommodate.
I just installed this top and back window is un even, after removing and
trying multiple times to line up it still will not line up..any ideas???
