Geez; it had to suck when that thing leaked again. I’m in the middle of
mine, but it wasn’t leaking like yours; just vapors and anti-freeze odor up
til now. Curious to know what other issues you’ve had with your Jeep? I’ve
had the bloody phone book of problems;everything from blend doors to key
fob, in addition to intermittent low idle, jamming key ignition, you name
it! The key fob turned out to be a loose connector at its module which
moved when tilting the wheel. just wrapped a zip lock around it to solve
the problem.

I believe the blend doors, however, are related to a malfunction in the
synchronization that takes place five minutes after every time you turn off
the engine; which is likely due to the motors that move them, or a
malfunction in the body control module. Either way, I used plate aluminum,
and a hollow bar from a wind chime to make my replacements; in addition to
some epoxy steel. And whenever they’re in their synchronization mode, you
can hear them really mashing down at end of travel; thus, indicating that
it’s not merely a matter of old and weakened doors when they break. For in
relation to this problem, there still exist the fact that it blows cold air
when it should be blowing hot and vice verse.

IT’S A JEEP THING; AND NOBODY UNDERSTANDS…

I really hope you see this before christmas because I am going to be doing
this job on christmas day. I have a couple concerns with the video. I have
the 4.0 and have much more space in the engine compartment, therefore Do
you recommend I still remove the coolant bottle and PCM unit?

Secondly, how did you go by discharging the A/C system before the tear-down
and install?

Obviously you lost coolant by disconnecting the two hoses, when everything
was back together, was it as simple as pouring new coolant into the bottle
until it reads full? Or will there be air in the coolant lines? Should I
let the engine idle for awhile and keep an eye on the coolant level?

Also, I really thank you for the thoroughness of this video. I also commend
you of taking a lot of those clips/bolts off with one hand to video tape
with the other haha.

Do you know off the top of your head if it is worth replacing my blend
doors since I don’t have dual zone control, I have the simpler manual
controls. They currently work fine on mine as well as my evap core. But as
you said, might as well replace everything when its all apart.

I am pretty mechanically inclined with my Grand Cherokee, but I’m not going
to lie here… I’m pretty nervous to start the tear down and replacement.

i had the same problem… my mechanic replaced the heater core. a day
later i had ALOT of fluid leaking out from the passenger side area, and
under the carpet. i figured it was highly unlikely that the core itself was
damaged, or defective so checked the hoses. sure enough they were leaking
at the clamp points. long story short… if you have this repair done, i
would advise not to re-use the factory clamps. throw some screw down hose
clamps on there and save yourself the hassle. thanks bro!

My truck was doing the same an the mechanic changed it an it was still
leaking … An he took the thermostat off an it stopped , will it get
messed up ?

link375 says:

at first it was because the heater core was broken and was leaking all the
engine coolant to the passenger side floor

link375 says:

if it was still leaking then he didn’t replace the heater core properly,
the new heater core got damaged, or he didn’t put the hoses on all the way.
mine was still leaking after I replaced the heater core, the problem was
that one of the heater core hoses wasn’t slipped on all the way and it
leaked out a little after the car heated up. I had to take it all apart
again and re-connect the heater core hoses on properly

jokerboy2298 says:

Was your truck overheating too ??

link375 says:

if the thermostat was completely removed you will probably run into more
serious problems down the road.. I would suggest getting it back in place
to avoid damage to your engine
