Idler pulley… check the other pulleys as well.

Did you add oil like it said to do with a new compressor ?
The fact it stops when you turn off the compressor said it’s the compressor.
You can swap it out with a warranty unit or just let it run for a few weeks and see if the sound changes.
My bet is the compressor is bad.
But I also don’t know what it sounded like before.
