Jeep Patriot Color Sanding (DIY Paint Repair)

Jeep Patriot Color Sanding (DIY Paint Repair)

In this video, I am working on color sanding and buffing out a Jeep Patriot. My Neighbor took on a DIY paint repair to fix some rust in the quarter panel. He did some research, and pulled the trigger on going doing the spot repair himself vs paying the body shop to fix the issue. I do not have any before photos of the condition of the Jeep before he started his paint repair. I only have the footage of the way this Jeep Patriot looks the way the client brought the vehicle to me.
You can see in the video footage that the paint does not look even and consistent with the OEM paint. In order to fix this, the paint needs to be sanded and buffed.
I began with 1500 grit sandpaper, but ended up using 1000 grit sandpaper in some of the rough areas to speed up the process. I ended up using 1000,1500.2000, and 3000 to sand down this quarter panel. It was not until the customer took delivery of the Jeep that I found out that this DIY paint repair was painted with Rattle can paint. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but I can see now that there were spots that there is far less paint then others. I am however happy that the paint match is spot on so that helps out a bunch making this look better overall in the end.
This was the perfect vehicle to practice on doing a repair like this. Prior to starting this service, I educated the client that doing this type of sanding repair is risky and it could result in burnt paint and other blemishes that could result in this type of repair.
I am continuing to improve my sanding techniques and approach to how I preform services like this. In the end I am happy with the way the paint look and the most important part is the customer was happy.
