Jeep Grand Cherokee: Failed Drivetrain Control Module

Jeep Grand Cherokee: Failed Drivetrain Control Module

In this video I bring a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I looked at months prior to fixing. I made the call on the drivetrain control module because the vehicle was binding while making turns on blacktop. The DTCM would receive inputs but not make any changes to the transfer case. The part is off backorder finally and ready to install. -Enjoy!

I know this is 2 years old, but I think i'm having a similar problem. Mine has givin me a air suspension service warning though. Could still drive just sharper turns were sketchy.

Jesse Colvin says:

Ok so I have no issues driving mine. But I have no power to the 4×4 Nd air suspension controller. I recently swapped out engine for a new one. Did they forget to plug something in

Ryan L. Thomas says:

So my diag suggests my module might need a re-flash. Wondering if an at-home replacement is more cost effective than going for service to reset it (and hopefully it works) to possibly replace it anyway. My Serv 4WD and traction control lights are on, and I’m unsure what I should do.

Cito vlogs says:

My switch won’t light up after getting towed any help?

Abhishek Trivedi says:

Thank you so much for the video !! You just saved me more than thousand dollar in repair cost. I was getting 4WD warning and jerks while driving at low speed. Minimum quote I had was $1600 for DTCM replacement. I ordered Transfer case control module for $310 and replaced it myself. All problems are gone.

James Wood says:

No bad videos!?

A V says:

First of all: Thank you for the great videos!

@09:53 you mention how the module was unresponsive to inputs; you could _see something_, but could not _do something_.. which sounded like the primary indicators of a bad module – which you then also confirmed by checked wiring & updating firmware without any improvement. I do not have the diagnostic tools to do this kind of in-depth analysis of the module in my Grand Cherokee – which is also crow hopping / binding. Is it reasonable to expect that replacing the module will fix things for me too? Besides the Drivetrain Control Module, what other things could be causing the binding? If I need to bring it to a shop, then how can I first verify that they have the tools & know-how to help me?

Thank you in advance for your help 🙂

Alex Pikulyak says:

I’m from Rochester, how much would it cost you to program a new module same vehicle ? Mine was bad and I sourced one 2nd hand since they are still back ordered.. I can trailer the car to you.

ccmkoho says:

Is this the same module as the Transfer case control module? My 2014 GC jeep has a clicking sound in different gears, is “jump” at low speeds and binds low speeds with sharp turns. Thank you

Yerko Roman Navarro Vicencio says:

first of all thank you for that video Eric. I have a question when I change a transfer module, should I program the new part number?

TheC4rpediem says:

Hi Eric, thank you for your video. I´m french from french Guyana. I got issue with my ´12 GC 5.7 transfer case control module. Your vidéo really help me to fix my problem, but the module (68395643AA) is out of stock everywhere I´m looking for… Do you have any idea for where I can find one?

A V says:

The problem you described, with the crow hopping and trouble with binding & turning in tight circles, is exactly what started happening to my 2013 Overland V8 Grand Cherokee yesterday. I am now almost entirely certain that I have the same issue that you solved in this video

You mentioned how this video was silly, and that you did the fix without doing a proper diagnosis – but if you ask me, you did exactly what had to be done to get things working again quickly, easily & inexpensively. Thanks for giving me hope on my screwed-up Jeep

I've seen other very helpful & informative videos on this channel. Thank you for posting meaningful & informative stuff – keep up the great work!

C3SAR VARGAS says:

I have a 2012 grand cherokee limited with Quadra Trac 2 .. mine is stuck in Neutral tried the method were u put it in the on position(not engine on) press brake n Neutral buttom but all I hear is the transfer case clicking but won't turn it off or get it off Neutral. I can drive the truck but my front wheels don't engage and my knob selector does not work. I replaced the control module but still no luck. I don't t have any lights on the dashboard whatsoever. Could it be the transfer case motor ? Anyone ? Thanks

Nadik Foolie says:

I have a 2011 and it's stuck in 4×4 low, that shifter to sport mode and air shocks doesn't work could I possibly have the same fix you just did?

Kelly Cofield says:

I am having this same issue even after replacing the actuator and the transfer case please help if you can!!!!

James Long says:

Damn good video. Very right to the point and very easy to understand.

Gerald Menke says:

Man I want to thank you for this video. Our 2012 JGC Overland was crowhopping. Local dealer said it was the transfer case and would cost 5000 dollars to replace!! I watched your video, found another dealer with the module, just installed it and it the binding up stopped, drove like new. Best part was the dealer who sold us the module wanted $256 to install and “program” it. I popped it in just like you showed us and it runs perfect! Thank you so much. 5 stars!!

The Attorney says:

The question is what happened to the old control module ? Why did it stop working properly ?

THOMAS SHAFFER says:

Been watching your channel since you advertised your MD at the start of your vid's. Never been a dull video from Avoca!
