Side note — my heater core just recently sprung a huge leak, resulting in
coolant leaking into the passenger-side footwell and a surprising
near-overheat situation that alerted me to the whole mess.
I disconnected the heater circuit hoses at the water pump and looped the
feed and return with a short length of curved hose. So, no more leak and no
more heat.
Only days later, I had a guy approach me and offer to buy the truck (he had
been looking for one for a while with the 4.7L V8, this one was in such
good shape, blah, blah, blah). I told him about the heater core. He still
bought it, and paid a bit more than the truck was worth. Lucky me.
Replacement of the heater core requires either a few hundred bucks (since
it makes sense to replace the A/C evaporator at the same time) and a
significant portion of a weekend (the entire dashboard has to come out…
not a quick task if you don’t happen to pull them out often and know where
every bolt is, etc.)… OR somewhere around $900-1100 to pay someone else
to do it (parts and labor).
I’ve already filled the Grand Cherokee’s spot in my current fleet with
something a bit more fun for the Summer…

i replaced the starter on my 2000 jeep gc v8 engine and found that if you
don’t jack up the car or have it on a lift, the passenger side wheel stays
high enough that the upper suspension arm(?) stays far enough away that the
starter falls out almost. took about 45 minutes. thanks again for the info.

Very informative, and a helpful video. Thank you. I love my Jeep, but
despise the tight quarters for working on it (I’ll probably have a
permanent burn scar on my forearm from the exhaust by jiggling solenoid
wires to get it started after a long drive). Not the biggest fan of their
electrical quirks either. I use my key to open the door and the car alarm
goes off, even though it unlocks fully. Either this is a trick the
designers threw in for fun, or another case of Jeep LOLectronics. Any
advice on this problem?

all very nice, but I would have liked to see you under the car actually
removing the starter….it looks nice and easy with the diagram, but
actually reaching for the damn starter is another matter entirely…do you
have a video of the actual removal/reinstallation of the bloody thing.:)
