Honestly we have no experience with the Aussie lockers so we don’t really
have an opinion on them. We do offer Lock Right lockers which are similar
and have worked well for us. If you’re planning to put this style locker in
the front of your Jeep, I highly suggest that you look into a selectable
locker. This will give you the ability to shut the locking feature off when
you are on the street. Without it, turning can be difficult and hard on
parts. Let us know if you have any other questions.

webdesign212 says:

install looked good but one thing. Your supposed to tighten the ring gear
bolts in a star pattern.

Adam Pakulski says:

how much would it cost you guys to do this on a 93 jeep cherokee? rough
estament

Timotayos says:

That socket is not impact rated!

gospeedracer40 says:

I Hope your still checking messages. I have FSJ (Grand Wagoneer) with all
Dodge power train. except my axles I have a dana 60 out of a 1976 3/4 ton
HD I have 37 inch tires and need a locker of some type that will not use
LSD oil.. This year they had no oil/axle seals. Grizzly told me a “grizzly
locker” would be best but I like your True track This truck is 50% road and
realy need it to work off road. what do you suggest

crankinozzer says:

@4wd How does it affect the performance of the Jeep, on and off road? How
does it affect mileage?

Gabriel Suarez says:

wonderful a beautiful demonstration and explanation of the differential
would dismantle one too … πŸ™‚ thumbs up!!!

Bloodclutify says:

i know this might sound a bit noobish , but ,, why did they apply a yellow
(paint kind of thing) substance on a particular location of that ring gear

MrJuko2006 says:

Not to be picky but arent you supposed to put the liquid gaskette around
the holes and not just through them .Just saying.

javhasachubby says:

Are true tracs in both front and rear axles a good choice for a jeep that
does 90% street driving and 10% dirt, mud, and sand? Or would a truetrac up
front and an auburn in back be better?

59catmando says:

What is your opinion on the Aussie Lockers? I am looking for lockers for a
2013 JK.

4WD says:

The Detroit Truetrac Differential would be an upgrade over your factory LSD
that is currently in the Jeep. A Detroit Truetrac would be in the middle
between a LSD and fully selectable locker in my opinion. For your
particular situation, I would suggest that you get a fully selectable
locker because you will get more benefit out of a full selectable locker
over the Detroit.

Virginia Towerman says:

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Dana 35C 3.73 Rear Axle ratio. I
build telecommunication towers on mountain tops and would like a clutch
that is street friendly…but will also give me the traction I need to
climb these narrow (and often rutted) trails to the tower site. How does
this unit compare to a locker?

boganindustries says:

I’m a tad picky, so here goes: When tightening the bearing caps on the
carrier the operator nipped the bolts with a rattle gun and then used a
torque wrench, it seemed like he didnt get much movement on the torque
wrench perhaps because the rattle gun nipped them too much? Also, when
tightening the bolts on the crown gear to the carrier shouldnt they be
tightened in the similar fashion to a car wheel? ie every second bolt
tightened should be on the opposite side of the last. Nice video. πŸ™‚

How much does a shop charge to install lockers? and like how long does it
take for some body to do it at home?

Rich08809 says:

My 2012 sahara JKU did not come with a locking diff. Can this only be
installed if you have some type of locking diff already or can this go in
to my vehicle as it is now? Does this lock up auto or is there a switch for
manual lock up? Thanks!

ORYGUN11x says:

High quality work.

AlDF86 says:

4:34 – Like, wrong catching gear contact. Or still right?

justinchaffin1013 says:

so lockers would help for mudding and stuff how much would a okay locker
for a 2000 f150 2wd plus installation?

bikefuller says:

working on stuff brand new in a shop with a lift if so NICE

4WD says:

Yes, we have lockers available for almost every axle available. We just
need to know what axles are in your 4×4 S10. Let us know what the axles are
or give our gear squad a call (800-914-0065) and we can help you find the
correct lockers for your vehicle. Thanks!

scubadivingsince2006 says:

do they make these lockers for 4×4 chevy s-10

green98peon says:

Looks like a lot of work. More than I want to deal with.

leon dzondault says:

Excellent conception

4WD says:

ape300 unfortunately there is a lot involved in putting this back in. First
you need to know the gear ratio of the gears to plan to use so you can
match the locker to the gears. You’ll need new bearings for the Detroit to
ride on, once you put new bearings on you’ll need to use shims to set the
carrier preload and backlash. Once you get it back together you’ll need to
check to make sure the gears are installed correctly and within the correct
tolerances. Thanks.

4WD says:

javhasachubby, the Detroit Trutrac is designed for the occasional offroader
and is well suited for highway drivability. But if you’re spending that
much time on the highway we would rather see you use customers use a
selectable locker so that they can turn it on only when needed. Selectable
lockers are more money, but if you do a lot of street driving they are the
way to go. The Detroit is a great option if you’re on a budget and cant
spend the extra cash for a selectable locker. Thanks.

4WD says:

@brandon9966 The Detroit Truetrac is an automatic torque biasing locker.
Meaning, that it isn’t a selectable locker. To answer your question, this
is a permanent locker.

wcwicked clown says:

how much can something like this cost to do to a 2002 Yukon truck ?

Jerred Shoemaker says:

On a Dana 44 and dana 30 I thought the shims go between the bearing and the
carrier, they installed them on the outside of the bearings. I can see the
shims on the open carrier are retained by the bearings. The fsm says you
have to pull the carrier remove the bearing and add shims to adjust
backlash. In this video he beats a shim into place can then puts the strap
over it. Obviously this installer did it this way, but is it correct and
still warrantied?

4WD says:

gospeedracer40 the Detroit Trutrac is designed for the occasional offroader
and is well suited for highway drivability and does not require LSD oil to
be used. The Detroit TrueTrac Limited Slip is an all gear driven clutchless
differential. The TrueTrac will automatically provide smooth transfer of
power from the slipping wheel to the non slipping wheel to help you out of
a jam. With no clutches to wear out, you will have a dependable long
lasting Limited Slip differential. Thanks.

Antoniocool86 says:

Quality workmanship.

4WD says:

We sent you a message because we need some more information to get you a
correct quote. Thanks and we look forward to helping you lock the rear of
your Tacoma.

4WD says:

This can be installed into your 2012 JKU, this locker replaces the entire
differential in your axle, so it wont matter what you currently have in the
Jeep as it will all be replaced with a new locker. The Detriot Trutrac is a
non selectable locker meaning that you don’t have a switch to turn it on or
off, its a mechanical locker that will give you traction when its needed
most. If you are in the market for a selectable locker, we have several
options available from ARB, Aurburn and OX Lockers.

ape300 says:

I am looking to put one of these in my trucks as a back yard project i am
going to reuse the ring and pinion gear i am just going to put the Detroit
true tracs in instead of my open rear end is there anything i need to know
about putting it in? other than unbolting it and putting the new one in?

Nero Scott says:

A good job, gives good confidence level…!!

4WD says:

The yellow paint is actually gear marking compound. This helps the
installer see if the contact area between the ring and pinion are
acceptable and it gives you a visual idea of where the 2 gears are
contacting each other.
