Nevermind, my 95 Cherokee just has the stupid push button assembly not the handle like yours.
Can you please rename the video to “Jeep Grand Cherokee….” I have a normal cherokee and checked this video out first but it doesn’t help me at all.
I did the same thing, tore my arm up pretty good reaching in there. I snapped off the factory lever mechanism and bought replacements which are plastic. Have snapped about one every 3 months where the lever from the handle pushes the trunk pulley to release it. very frustrating.

removing screws . the handle was broken ( just had the car at mechanics and they got rough with it . Iknew when i went to open it) So i used one of the screws from the panel removal to create an extention to replace the broken plastic end of the handle. I did this by drilling into the handle from the inside and installing this large head phillips screw into
I would like to say that hindsight is 20/20 before i start the rest of this post. So after watching your vid I was able to reacjh in and pull the lever behind the panel which allowed me to open the back door from the inside with the outside screws still fastened( it was a tight squeeze on my arm but doable). After opening the door I removed my panel by
