I thought the clutch alignment tool made it easier but 4 hrs geez

RESISTANCE AGAINST TYRANNY says:

Had my CrankShaft Position Sensor off about a dozen times and have never calibrated it…. Never needed too. Don't exactly know how you go about calibrating it…. Can you elaborate?

Great Comments here. The Vaseline P.Jelly lubricant and gear oil comments were most helpful along with spending $190 bucks for a tranny jack one poster suggested but I still saved $800 bucks over what a shop charges for labor. What did the author decide on the Vaseline for lubricant? I read his comment along with his concern that the silicone will melt away? The sweet 80 old guy says Pet. Jelly will eat rubber and get the ladies pregnant according to another poster, I assume he discovered this from personal use :)). I will use good non GL gear oil following the old guy's suggestions but how about brake component grease for the rubber on the shift rod hookup? I and a guy three times my age are doing this over a two day period, we hope. Have two jeeps, 03 Sport and 06 Rubican.

Koyle says:

The trick is getting a jack under the motor to help the tilt angle while you have the transmission on another jack

Klelm says:

So you don't need to replace and of the shifter parts?

Blake Williams says:

I feel your pain on the alignment and seating. Been there

Side pocket Louie says:

Wondering how that oil is holding up?

IronOzzy53 says:

The top two star bolts that you replaced- what bolts did you replace them with?

Raffaro says:

When stuck on an install its best to go get a bite to eat relax for a short stint and then get back on it . works every time!

reddyuda says:

Best manual trans fluid is AMSOIL 75w-90 MTG and RedLine MT-90.
Both GL4 and safe for brass synchros. My XJ shifts really smooth with MT90 at 280k miles

I'm on 12 hours now and I still can't get mine in………….. Finally. The new pilot bearing wouldn't allow the shaft to go in. Had to turn the the crank to allow it to engage. I used to smaller bolts to help pull it together and at time the crank shaft seemed seized up. Finally I heard a pop and that was the ticket home. Continued to wrench on the 2 bolts and she sucked right in. 12 plus hours of living hell. Was ready to put it on Craigslist for 500. Was ready to divorce my jeep. Love hate relationship. YOU ALL KNOW WHAT I MEAN. Thank God that's over with. Reason I had to take it out was putting a new motor into it and everything else new as well.

Brandon Woolman says:

I'm a little new to Jeeps but I'm doing a transmission swap from a 96 into a 89 Cherokee to get the newer 5 speed so I took the flywheel off the 96 and put it on the 89 would that cause the crank positioning sensor to read it wrong because they are different flywheels thus making the Jeep not start (it dose crank) and is there an easy fix or do I need to pull the transmission and put the old flywheel back in or could I possibly just swap computers?

Quantum Entangle says:

Screw this..I'll just buy the transmission and take it to the shop for them to put it in.

J Rdz says:

By the sounds of your grunts I think you blew your transmission LMAO

Timmay1960 says:

I've done the four-hour push. I learned that it's best to align it as carefully as possible before pulling it, and then keeping it harnessed in the same position. Finally, it goes in exactly as you showed it; the last inch almost clicks in place with light pressure and just holding it until it goes.
