Dreeev says:

Why only invite your son? Shouldn’t your daughter also learn how to work on
a car?

FunnerEveryDay says:

Fixing the clutch switch in a 2003 Jeep Wrangler!

Toast says:

You’re having another baby? Congrats :))))

x9x9x9x9x9 says:

Your kids are so polite.

intotheoceanbloo says:

I like how your son calls you “sir.” Makes his speech seem efficient and
clear.

Jared Reabow says:

i Think the majority of the world would disagree with how dangerous not
having that interrupt is.
Every single car i have owned has been manual (stick shift as Americans
choose to say) and we tend to
1: have a hand break(emergency break) on so if all else fails the car will
lurch and you will not start it.
2: not have the thing in gear so it will start safely regardless of our
foot being on the clutch or not.:
3: put our foot on the clutch when we start the vehicle anyway as it is
just plain common sense.

halfcelestialelf says:

So is this for an automatic car ? Phah, they’re no fun. (well, not as much
as a manual car in my opinion)

Bigelow Brook Farm (Web4Deb) says:

Nice job. Too bad most people don’t know what a clutch does. ;-)

Tom Nally says:

Very enjoyable. The only thing that might have made it better would have
been if you and your son had done a leaping shoulder bump after your wife’s
acknowledgement that you are “manly men”!

retsaoter says:

Good work. I dont think I would have made the step past jumping it out.

RCFlyBoy314 says:

Oh yeah! My Ranger has that guy, had to dismantle it to replace the clutch
master cylinder.

Alissa Frederick says:

his is very nice, but I think it would have also been ok to take your
daughter out and teacher her how to work on a car as well.

morpheus970 says:

well that was random, like it :D

rubzlovespancakes says:

First off, great video. I think it’s good to show that even electronic
problems with cars can be simple and not at all scary. You just have to
know what to do (thank God for the Internet).

Then, I saw similar things in other comments, but I think in this instance
it never hurts to repeat. My car is a manual and does not have a clutch
starter switch. So, if you ever find yourself parking or starting a manual,
follow these steps and you can never go wrong:
Parking:
Clutch down, break down, neutral, shut off engine, engage hand break,
unbuckle, get out. The only reason I’d leave my car in gear, is if I’m
parked on a hill (1st gear to prevent car rolling backwards, reverse gear
to prevent the car rolling forwards).
Starting:
Buckle your damn seatbelt, clutch down, break down, start engine, release
hand break, put car in gear, release break, drive away. Of course, if
you’re on a hill, do a hill start. 😛

The electronic tools are there to cover your ass if you cock up.
Electronics break, your common sense is (hopefully) much more reliable. 😉
Drive safely!

Harley Pebley says:

If I’d done it, bypassing it would have been the fix. :-)

Michail Shaposhnikov says:

Is your child okay? I hope he/she feels better! =(

Steve Fennelly says:

A thoroughly enjoyable video of something I’ll never need to do, but I’m
glad I know how!

wordsnwood says:

Good job… I learned something!

ComfortablyNumb1969 says:

Wow, that switch is $60 at Rock auto!

russtex says:

So glad you are teaching your son how to work in cars! My dad didn’t know
much and I had to learn myself when he gave me a car at 15 years old that
didn’t work. He told me if I could fix it that is would be mine! I did! And
drove it for several years until it started rusting away real bad!

rgbii says:

My 85 cj doesn’t have one of these (never did). Never been an issue for me
since I always put the clutch in when starting, however, I did have a
friend try to start it while in gear and clutch out. The starter was not
only strong enough to jerk the jeep forward, it still started it and took
off – luckily he didn’t have his foot on the gas, so it was just idling
forward.

16 Bit Images says:

I knew what very little of the explanation meant… maybe I should learn
stick shift.

Jeremy McElwrarth says:

Excellent video, and thanks for contributing to the collective of how-to
educational videos on YouTube. I’m sure this will help somebody out.

atiseru says:

Your children call you sir?

Levi Bowers says:

Don’t put away your tools. It’s still a Jeep. You’ll need them again soon
:)

andrew durkiewicz says:

I really enjoyed this video. You are a great parent go show your children
how to fix cars! Also, Gavin Free consistantly talks about how he loves
your videos. Thought I would let you know:)

Richard Scott says:

Because doomoflacher is so definitely a technical term.

Peter Jerde says:

Your family is so beautiful! Please tell your son how impressed “some guy
on the internet” was at his mannners. :)

theslawek says:

More women now-a-days don’t value these “fix it up” skills that you
demonstrate here. If they do exist, they seem to be one in a million.

Félix Labelle says:

Dont own a jeep, nor plan to. Still watched the whole thing to get my daily
dose of amazing awesomeness!

muffty halbgar says:

Hey Destin, what’s with the bible stuff at the end? I thought you, as a man
of sience, are above religious crap.
Atheists are the better people, ’cause the don’t fight over “who has the
best imaginary friend”. :P

Peter Kerr says:

Your wife is so brilliant. After watching and seeing how you guys interact
in all your videos, if I had to pick a kind of marriage to strive towards,
it’d definitely be yours.

bain5872 says:

A man can posses all the riches he desires but with out a good wife and
family, he is poor beyond measure. You sir are truly wealthy!

Drift King says:

Destin, I really enjoy how respectfully you have raised your kids to be.
Thanks for posting this video!

IWDCC24 says:

I’m impressed. Most people don’t know that the technical name for the
retainer clip on a clutch safety switch (on Jeep’s) is “Dumaflatcher”.
GM’s call them “thingamabobs”. I don’t know what Ford calls them.

GigaRebyc says:

“Boom, it’s in! …Oop!”
*plastic doomaflotcher flies towards camera”
“No it’s not…”

EPICSNIPER145 says:

dude you have your kids call you sir. IMO that a bit strange i have never
called any of my family member mam or sir. Why do you have them do that

Oliver Krystal says:

Men in tight *tight* tights ….

Matthew Scothorn says:

I’ve learned something I might actually have an opportunity to use!
(Mechanic here.) Thx Destin.
