Rear seal 2000 jeep cheroke

AKDropem says:

Did you remove the diff cover before you started?

Jorge Machado says:

Thanks for the fast reply. Im doing this job on my jeep soon. Just a quick
question, did you have to drain the differential fluid?

Nate Kaemingk says:

Hey Shawn, sorry for the late reply. I believe they were still using the
Dana 35 axle in 2004, but I’m not sure it was the only option. You should
be able to find a Dana axle guide based on the shape of the differential
cover.

DansAutomotiveWA says:

@killerhamster104 Hamster, the tool we used to take out the axle assembly
is called a slide hammer. Slide hammer’s should be available from Sears or
other major tool suppliers.

frosty2692 says:

call your local napa. some of them have a press. if not they usually can
tell you who has one

Nate Kaemingk says:

What year is your Jeep? Is it a regular Cherokee or a Grand Cherokee? (they
have different axles)

jeffery schmidt says:

is there a way to “cheat” pressing the new bearing in place if you don’t
have a press?

Jorge Machado says:

Great tutorial. I just have one question, whats the tool you used to take
out the wheel axle assembly from the jeep?

Stefan Wing says:

i used this video to change mine (’00 larado dana 35) i was able to do
everything with no problems THANKS YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! also when i
pulled the cover i found that the gears looked brand new… the hardest
park was those damn drums they took longer to put on than the bearing and
seal replace lol

Stefan Wing says:

part not park lol

steven chandler says:

The race just comes out that easily? when I did this job I was able to get
the race out only after grinding it out. I had no idea that it was that
easy to pull the bearing race out by hand.

Stefan Wing says:

Do I need to drain the fluid? And do I need a press or is there a way to
get around it

DansAutomotiveWA says:

@killerhamster104, you do not need to drain the differential fluid to do
this job.

shawn karg says:

Thank you for posting this. I was first told you had to undo the dif cover
and pull the “c” clip…That is going to save a lot of time…

Viking4freedom says:

What if you dont have a press? And how do you the 4 bolts to come out the
back side of the wheel?

Nate Kaemingk says:

Yes you must remove the bearing, That is the only reason we pulled the
bearing in this video. The bearing was fine but the seal was bad.

shawn sosna says:

how do you get the rear tire off

plethoray says:

Fantastic tutorial. Answered every question I had.

jonmanch3st3r says:

nice work,and fast 2

shawn karg says:

Will this also work for a 2004? With v6. Thanks Shawn

Scott Rozman says:

Nice quick overview! Was this a Dana 35 or a Dana 44a? I’ve always thought
WJs had a c-clip axle, but perhaps some do and some do not…

chris96xj says:

Remind me to never take my vehicle ther

Zhimaru says:

@DansAutomotiveWA also a note you can rent these tools from most automotive
parts stores and when you bring it back they give you your money back. You
just put down the price of the part

DansAutomotiveWA says:

@AKDropem, no we didn’t remove the diff cover for this job, it wasn’t
necessary.

Eli T says:

Sounds like the dentist grinding my teeth

steven chandler says:

I own a 2000 WJ. i see you just pulled the race out with your hand. mine
had to be pulled out. Question is why the difference

bicdaddy says:

Do you have to remove the bearing to replace the seal?

Nate Kaemingk says:

How easy the race comes out completely depends on the conditions the
vehicle has been driven in. Rust is our enemy.

Lawnmower madness says:

Well that just saved me alot of time. I thought It was the same as a
regular Cherokee. Crap!
