bdd1469 says:

To who ever said the the 242 is the strongest case ever offered by jeep, google dana 300.
If the 242 is so great why do serious offroaders run a dana 300? Because it is the strongest, most upgradeable, sought after case jeep ever offered.

2253raymond says:

i have a 97 grand cherokee laredo and my t-case sounds like a ringging noise . WHAT IS THE PROBLEM????? PLEASE HELP it is not all wheel drive ……. i have 2wd and 4 lo and 4 hi option.

Lee Hollis says:

Well, how arrogant of you.

I actually have a Cherokee myself with this EXACT problem, so it’s very useful to someone like me who would like a visual as to whats making the horrible grinding sound when he drives.

Save your shitty self-righteousness for somewhere else.

proc5454 says:

what a tool…

twocanucksBSsomenews says:

what type of noises was the transfer case making before the replacement?

stormer1092 says:

its a 48/52 split in 4 hi, 50/50 in 4 part time.

tc cunning says:

I had an np242, then a 231, now Im back with a 242.. have to say I prefer the 242 with its fulltime 4wheel drive. It just gives you more options and more control than the part-time cases. Good vid.

Dotchetter says:

Well the Grand Cherokee’s from 93-96 had the NP-249 with 4 All Time , NEUTRAL and 4 LO as selections where as both 4 All Time and 4 LO were 4WD with a viscous coupling, and in 4 LO the power was increased with a ratio of 2.72:1 (Increased power with 2.72 times the power in 4 All Time) And THEN we have all the late ZJ models from 96-98 with the NV-249 (Notice the NV instead of NP) with a lock mechanism that interlocks the front and rear driveshaft in 4 LO, with viscous coupling in 4AT.

Dotchetter says:

Well if the 242 sucks then nothing must be good enough for you. The 242 is the most solid transfer case ever offered in any Jeep. It’s got plenty of 4×4 modes to choose, 2wd as well so a reason for why it sucks just seems non existent for me. The other T cases are built up the same way basically so if this one sucks, then every single t case must suck as well from your perspective.
Fact is that everything gets worn with time no matter how great they are from the beginning.

bose3207 says:

J1I9M7M4Y says:

Does the 242 have same kind of full time 4wd as the 247?

nick stewart says:

was it easy to change to take the sproket off? my chain is really loose. or i should say it is loose. because when i back up with any throttle it slips really bad. iam thinkin a new chain would fix it.

Alucarde2565 says:

Why’d you waste your money on a Grocery Getter Jeep?

j schwind says:

Would a stretched out chain on a selectrac jeep grand cherokee make a rumbeling noise underneath the drivers side after 30 mph? And then the sound will go away after letting off the gas slightly?

kiteLe06 says:

QuadRA-tRAC is the np249

jake hilton says:

what transfer case is Quadartec???

tilley9898 says:

Did this make a noise when driving down the street? if so, did it not have any noise while driving until you hit abuot 30+ mph? I have a noise with my transfer case and its the np242 as well, but it doesnt make a noise while in park, N, or 1st and 2nd gears (manually shifting then) but if i put it in drive and its over about 30 mph it’ll start this whining noise…not sure what it is

Casey Spinks says:

did u have to remove any gears or just split the case im not shure if the chain comes appart or if u have to remove a gear

hadi820 says:

selec track is awesome! especially on snow roads with parts of it cleared u can just drop into full time 4 and you are good to go!

Zach Miller says:

this video helped me so fuck all you haters

BBOYskills3 says:

can someone tell me the diff betweed the np242 and the 241?

Albert Blank says:

my transfer case makes a weird noise do you think it might be the drive chain? the only way i could describe the noise is that sounds like if you were to fill a coffee can with bunch of nuts and bolts and spin it. I have a 1997 np231 and idk if the chain has ever been replaced.

StrainingDingelberry says:

i have a 1995 xj with a 4.5 in lift and a 1in tcase drop and a stock driveshaft it looks like the yoke is pulled out really far i was wondering if it would cause any problems because whenever i put it in 4 hi it just winds up and sounds like the t case isnt engaging all the way or the chain is loose should i upgrade to a longer cv driveshaft or would that even make a difference HELP PLEASE

Rancidkidd says:

Never mind, there is only 1 size chain for the NP242, Chrysler parts guys are morons…

Rancidkidd says:

I have a 99 Cherokee with the NP242 and the chain is slipping real bad. I have looked online for chains and they are all around $100 I went to the dealer ship today to see their prices and they said that there are 3 different chains for the NP242. I think they are full of shit but idk.
Anyone know?

and dsmit376 where did u get your chain?

Ozarkarms says:

results*, in order*, grooves*

Love,
Spell Check.

WTFchuck100 says:

konadude92 says:

where u haveing problems with ur 4 wheel drive b4 u changed chains?

wild1horse says:

For better resolts take the t-case out.You need to clean all surfaces inorder to apply silicon.Make sure to check your drive and driven gears for pits or groves.

Starfire917 says:

My dad has a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and was wondering did you have to take the whole transfer case out to fix the chain on?
right now the prices are up to $300-$500 to get it pofessionally fixed.
can you possibly give some step by step instructions? It would be a great help. Thanks!

SaGalv says:

i may have a similar problem…i know mine makes a knocking sound when you go over bumps or turn, and it comes from undernear, like where the trans case and transmission is located….the knock isnt a u-joint or anything becuase that sounds totally different, i probably have a worn bushing somewhere,

Mike Hatrock says:

uum, its was just my exhaust hitting my cross member. haha. “tweaked” it outta the way. and now i got another problem. its either piston slap, or a loose torque converter. hoping to god just a loose torque converter *cross fingers*
