Hi John. So to add to the confusion I have a 2005 XK8 convertible (Not an XKR) which has well documented history. I am as sure as I can be that it had 3 black rings and the white spacers as standard on the front spring. The front springs on mine are poor and the car sits so low it grounds occasionally. I attempted a top mount change mount change. A disaster. I had the same effects as you did. I only ran mine for circa 1200 miles. There is a secondary effect I suffered, the poor top mounts destroyed the bump stops. I'm currently in the process of my second attempt at a top mount change. I have built mounts with "Baxtor inserts". (He's really knowledgeable and a great man to deal with). My plan also incorporates fitting new KYB springs as well. The spacer and insert issue is my current puzzle. I'm still deciding whether to use them with the new springs. I think I will go with the original set up but the taper on the white inserts is not identical to the tail on the KYB spring so I will rotate it to get the best fit. I want to keep the tabs of the original spring seat. Its all such a laugh. I bet only the fitters who built the spring assemblies years ago know all the different configurations and which is right. I have studied as many pictures and spring assemblies as I can. The more you look and think about it the more confusing it is. Just my view to add to the debate.

The europarts replacement has the squished bushing (appears to) and the seat ring is coated rigid steel. But I do like the idea of the up-graded bushings.
