Removing and Installing a Windscreen at Home

Removing and Installing a Windscreen at Home

The rear window on my 1975 jaguar XJ6 is leaking when it rains. This is not ideal when fall has started and it’s raining all the time. In this video I will show you how removing and installing a windscreen at home. I will be showing it on the rear window but it’s the same procedure on the windscreen. This is for a car with a locking strip windscreen seal.

Hi Adam. Just a follow up to say I'm doing this now on both my front and rear windscreens. Happy to say no rust on front!. Rear comes out tomorrow, so fingers crossed. Anyway, wanted to thank you again for this great video. Supper helpful.

Hi Adam, thank you for sharing your tips and knowledge on how to maintain our beloved classic XJ's. I will be looking forward to the video where you put back the stainless steel trim back inside the windscreen rubber molding. I am in the process of doing that myself at this time. Thank you in advance.

This is a job I need to do soon and your removal method was what I had in mind. I have an S1 with no heating so, I want to use the opportunity to upgrade. I love the ring spanner technique for getting the locking bead back in too! I just need to get some consumables together now.

Hello Adam,

Thanks for making this essential video. I roped in my back glass and put the windshield rubber where it joins together in the middle on the bottom. Seems to fit well.

I just discovered your video today, trying to figure out how to get that lock strip back in. I bought a new one and will try the 9 mm box end .

Your videos are the only way I have been able to have the courage to work on my series 1 XJ6 .

I am four months into the service aspect for the vehicle all in my garage.

Everything I have done has been approached by watching your excellent videos first… except I missed this halls insert one !

Thanks and best always with your endeavors and family.

Just removed the rear windshield and your video helped me tremendously. Thank you!!!!

I found a little bit of rust so going to fix and paint that section. Does any one know where I can purchase a new complete gasket?

I'm blessed to have a 87 Jaguar XJ6 Series 3..

How do you heat your workshop

Keith Newton says:

Can i ask why you did not use the string method to refit the glass. It makes it easier and quicker to refit the glass.
It been used by screen fitter for 100 years to be honest my local screen fitter charges £75 to remove and refit and fit new rubber seal and he come to the house

zurdo says:

the antenna should be down

hemi2001 says:

I‘ve never seen a xj s1/2 without rust under the seal! If you want to avoid the hardened seal, you can use a plasticiser with dibutyl maleate, that works perfectly with rubber parts, dashboards , doorcards, convertible tops, tires…
