How To – Replace Your Brakes On A Jaguar XE

How To – Replace Your Brakes On A Jaguar XE

Welcome back! In today’s how to I will show you how to replace the brakes on both front and rear of a jaguar XE. This may also be the case for several cars as this braking system is a ford system and may well be commonly used elsewhere.

I have seen on various forums and Facebook posts of owners being quoted £4-600 pound for brake replacement. I had payed a total of £180 for all 4 discs and both sets of pads and only taking me around 1.5 hours including filming.

I hope this will help any owners wanting to tackle this job but maybe getting a little overwhelmed with the electronic parking brake etc, if this guide does help you then please smash that subscribe button as this will really help the channel grow.

if there is any more “How To’s” that you may like me to undertake on the Jaguar let me know in the comments below.

P.s sorry about the wind noise!

What a lot of rust, all down to road salt damage, what a pity…..

A good Gardner has a Green thumb, so I guess a good brake man had a Red one! lol good video. my 2 cents I like to give a pressure wash first, and use brake clean on the pistons before depressing them. and then a little grease on the slides for the pads to move freely. I have the same brakes on my 19 XF I painted them red in place when I got it now after watching you I will know what I am doing when I replace my pads thank you! from the
USA!!!

David McNicol says:

I just tried this this today… followed the instructions given in this video but was fighting with the brake piston for about an hour trying to get it back in, now the pads are done, the car will not get out of handbrake service mode. Any ideas to get it out of the service mode? I’ve tried the same method as getting it in (but with raising the handbrake this time) but nothings working, and the handbrake is essential locked on.

I am really not wanting to call the RAC to my driveway…

Oliver wilton says:

That's brilliant, thank you, I'll be doing mine this weekend. A handy tip I've used in the past is to zip-tie the caliper to the suspension spring while you work on the carrier and disc. This saves any accidental pulling on the break line.

Airmanmx1 says:

So no part to take the vehicle out of maintenance mode?

Subbed, thanks for this. I'm pretty handy with spanners but used this video for reference and its perfect, all the info is there with no nonsense. I've just done my rears and parts from Ebay cost £57.10 and took an hour of my time, virtually a tenth of what some places charge.

Andrea B. says:

I changed the rear pads with EBC redstuff, I also used the caliper lubricant but they make noise while I do not brake, as soon as I touch the brakes the noise stop.
do you have some advice?
Thank you

Jeremy Serrano says:

Thank you so much for this! About to tackle it in the morning

Jw Read says:

My local garage said you should only 'wind back' slave pistons via a compurt link to ECU, otherwise serious damage could be caused to EPB operation. I noticed you just forced them back !

Lawrence R says:

I read on a forum that the car needs to say in service mode with the ignition on, throughout the whole procedure to prevent an error message being logged on the cars computer. Is this correct? Or can I turn the ignition off again once it’s in service mode? Thanks.

superhappycat says:

Hello from America! Can the same procedure be done on the XF? I have a 2017 Jaguar XF 20d AWD.

W D says:

Never let your calipers freely hang! Grease your slide pins and points where your pads connect on calipers!

Caca Maca says:

When you change on front, gearbox in what position must be? Parking or neutral?

ArcBorstal says:

If there is one what is the torque setting of the 2 caliper and 2 carrier bolts?

Aleks Kozonov says:

Should you put electronic hand brake in service position or something like that, before you remove caliper?

jonny989 says:

Did you not need any copper grease on it?

Karim says:

If u forgot to put it on service mode and u already replaced the brake pads. but it still says replace pads. how do u remove it from your screen from saying replace brakepads?

Chris Bean says:

What about the required piston rewind tool ?.Pistons do not just push back.

Chris Leggett says:

Give the car a clean before the next one lol!!!
