I purchased a rare lefty in candy apple red direct from Japan before these
were available in the US. (Still could never get lefties here anyway). I
love mine. The only two knocks I have against it are the noisy electronics
(there’s an easy shielding fix online), and, unlike a Jazz bass, you can’t
blend the 2 PUPs together incrementally, they’re either all on or all off.
Unless there is an amplifier built into the guitar’s electronics it isn’t a
boost of the bass treble. Without an active component in the circuit (like
an amplifier) to increase the signal, you can only get a cut in the signal
from passive components like pots. You’re playing the “dry” signal when
both bass and treble are maxed out and a “defeated” signal when both are
fully cut which is allowing the mids to come through. With both controls at
max you’re getting a mostly virgin signal from the pickups with the least
attenuation.
The Jaguar bass sounds great to me. You play a bass very well, Dave. Nice
demo.
You did and amazing job taking away that noise 🙂 Also what is your
favorite bass and what is your preferred Fender Bass (just in case your
answer wasn’t a Fender product)? 🙂
Nice Job on the Jag Bass Mr Dave. Sounds like a Jazz bass in some ways.
Thank god its only got Treble & Bass boost cos it sounds pretty kool in
active. My active(s) PBass & Zone Bass have the mid range boost & makes the
treble boots unneeded. Oh well.
Dave – on a Jag guitar the upper roller controls are pickup volumes – the
switch switches the entire control between the two rollers and the
conventional controls below. The idea is you can set up two different
multi-pickup sounds and then switch between them. No tone controls or
anything else in the circuit when you’re using the roller volumes. The Jag.
bass prob. works the same way.
that depends how much time I spend I try to be reasonable and work off an
hourly scale as opposed to a set cost If the bass has unknown issues things
can take a bit longer basic setup is 40 to 60 bucks plus string costs
I love that Jag bass… Surprised the string package didn’t say “ribbed for
your pleasure” too. I was a teen during the Nirvana frenzy and I like most
Cobain style guitars. Not the Mustang though, I’d rather have a guitar with
long legs and a normal ass… The tail end of the mustang is a bit awkward
for such a small guitar.
Hard to believe they shielded the cavities and then didn’t ground them.
Somebody flunked basic electronics. Hope the owner likes it quiet. I can
just see the guy bringing it back, irate because you ‘ruined’ the sound.
LOL!
greetings Davey, when ever you get around it if you can please check out
the new for 2013 Fender Pawn Shop (series) Reverse Jaguar bass made in Mex
& tell us what you think compared to this Fender Jaguar bass made in Jpn
you reviewed which sounds really nice, cheers!

I want a jaguar, but my Carlo Robelli flame is so impressive with 4 knobs
and pull out, that it’s sound can not be beat.
Really cool bass
Never knew that existed.
Really nice.
Love the tone at 1:39
For bassists who enjoy playing with knobs.

me too 🙂
Good job Dave…That’ll make him happy.

Sounds beautiful!!!
Great old school bassist Davey…Btw who are your bass heroes Cheers. Tim
thx man you rock!
Almost sounded like you where about to break out into the Black Sabbath
N.I.B bassline there at times in this bud … LOL 🙂
What strings did you use for this video?
PMFJI – Get yourself a 5-string and save yourself the de-tuning headache.
twist is GREEN wood = bad luck it’s what a guitar builder strives to NOT
have happen

That’s pretty cool! I like the vintage look. Sounds great too.
this bass rocks!!! but i hated the neck dive….
I love it. Great job !!
I did it free for a friend if I was charging money the set up and shielding
would be about 100 bucks
Never tried G&L ,but I put it on my list of guitars to fiddle with 🙂 Also
how does one get a twist in a neck? How long does it take to get?
Plucking sounds pretty sexual too 😛
How did the headstock touchup come out?
no not mine 🙁

You sound like Geezer Butler.
all cavities were shielded and tied to ground
What bass do you recommend for lower tunings like drop d or drop c
LoL ….
nah the bass is different to a normal jag.
Only on the bridge pickup but it’s a single coil, what you gonna do? The
bass itself is all passive so none of that fancy control business.
I have had nightmares about finding those f*cking switches on my precision
mid-gig.
Hey Dave, ever get any Warwicks in your shop? I’d love to see your reaction
to one
thanks man:)
hi davey, so this amazing jaguar fender bass is passive & active & if so
are those two volume controls are for the single top switch?

Plucking my eye out? Sexual enough?
full 34 inch it just looks shorter
pretty cool, but i think fender went a bit crazy with this bass. its still
really tasty though. As a lady once said – too many knobs !
Nice job with the bass, I didn’t know the jag bass had such a variety in
tone.

Excellent Dave.
how much do you charge for a setup of a bass guitar?
some people prefer 4 strings
