Brake pads replacement, front and rear, Jaguar XJ8, 1998 – 2003 – VOTD

Brake pads: 1 – 3 Hours ($125 / $325 / $550)

In this video I changed the brake pads on a Jaguar XJ8, it was a 2003 model but this process is the same on many European vehicles including, Volvo, BMW, etc.

Robert, I have a 98 XJR and the passenger side hood release will not release and the hood will not open. Can you provide a solution on how to get the hood open. Thanks

Rotor means disc.

milowokie says:

Thanks for the advice, other than banging and hammering at the caliper after being unbolted to get it free, my pad change went well.

Janet McPhail says:

I think this video was useful, but it could have been better by including some other important parts of the job, like removing the clips and attaching new ones. That is one of the most difficult parts of the job and you didn’t show anything about it.

Otis Fury says:

Hey there can you possibly show in a video or explain how to put a coolant level sensor back in place on a 1995 xj6 Jaguar?

mudemmeonick says:

Hi Mr. Robert! Hope you are feeling fine!

John Ferguson says:

I think that it would have been a good idea to re-surface the rotors on the front. They looked like they had a large number of grooves but still plenty of meat on them. It also a good idea to slap a straight edge on there to see if they're warped. Did you use some copper grease on the back of the pads?

Mike Mac Gillivary says:
