awesome job! Thanks!

elzrod says:

Should I put it in forward before i start the removal of the lower unit ?

GW in TN says:

Nicely done video and easy to follow, but I noticed a critical flaw. WD-40
attacks Buna-N! Second, I don’t believe any petroleum based lubricants are
allowed by Merc to be put on the impeller in it’s housing as that will
degrade pump’s efficiency to cool the engine.

Jurena Hunter says:

You should use dish soap as a lube for reinstall, not wd40, it will cause
breakdown of rubber soap washes away and doesn’t harm anything, also just
buy a complete impeller kit not much more expensive! And by the looks of
that anode it’s running in salt probably time to replace! Other than that
not bad

Steve Rosensteel says:

yes,put it in forward before removal

Nice tutorial. Good Marine Mechanic work there….

bigwhtbco says:

hey guys, i’m currently doing the sea pump in the identical setup as your
demonstration. at 5:18 in this vid…two stainless plates fall to the
ground. i’m curious as to what those plates are and where they go. i do not
want to re-install the lower unit with out feeling knowing. any help would
be appriciated. thank you -Doug-

freespeachrulez says:

Boy that was no zinc.. you need to replace those right away or you will
never get things like your prop off.

Chuck G says:

In regard that “vent tube”, that tube is your speedometer tube that comes
from the front of the out drive without it your speedo won’t work. One
other thing the author of this video should have included is putting the
outdrive back together. One trick is to align that tube to the pipe inside
of the outdrive before you place the two parts back together. The other
trick is sometimes the splines do not align properly when putting them back
together, you must give the prop a spin sometimes.

Great video. I had never change one of these before. It helped that I am
very mechanically inclined understand what was going on. Watched both
videos and change one feeling like I had done it before. This really helped
and is much easier to understand than a manual.

David Blount says:

Fantastically helpful and well explained! Thanks for saving me hundreds of
GBP. Best Regards from David in Scotland (new to boating)

HKZBob says:

Nice Video, when are you doing a tutorial for a Trim Sending Unit
Replacement?

captainjaybird says:

Awesome! thank you for your tutorial. it gave me the confidence to try it
my self and it all went smoothly. My boat – 2005 model – never had the
impeller changed so I thought a proactive change was better than a reactive
change. I was scared at first but it was actually very easy – took me two
hrs by myself. I figured I saved over $250 – thanks Eddie!

Alex Thomas says:

Great video – I’m thinking about getting a used boat with the Merc 496
which has closed loop cooling, how important is this sea water pump on
these engines? I realize you need it for the wet exhaust, but it’s no
longer a stranding issue right?

Brandon Nguyen says:

Hi Addie. Thanks for your detail video, i was able to change out the
impeller on my 2000 Mariah last weekend. It’s sure feel good knowing that
it’s was done right and saved some money too. Now i have a problem with my
power trim. I have to use the trailer button to trim it down and up,
because the one on the shifter won’t work. How do i fix that problem? my
boat is 5.0 mercury alpha.

LadyDeeFishing says:

you got a internal clog in the cooling system or you forgot about the
keyway on the impeller shaft !

rogueboater says:

Those plates are remains of his exhaust flappers. That should not happen. I
hope this guy does not run across big waves or go too fast in reverse
anytime soon as I’m sure he’s impervious to this.

122436Joe says:

Thanks man! You Rock! The Sealoc manual is great if you are in a shop
taking the whole drive apart, but this shows how to do just what needs to
be done.

Rona Christman says:

Awesome and helpful video! Great tips saved a lot of time for sure. Thank
you for sharing!

Jay Proff says:

You just don’t know how much money you are saving boaters. Much
appreciated!

Jeremy Whisler says:

Nice job fellas! This is the first Alpha I Gen 2 impeller change video I
have found. Very helpful indeed, thank you!
