Jonno Emsley says:

thanks cliff i will do that tomorrow and ask my local sprints for the
carbon cleaning stuff and im gonna try one of those green scourers to clean
it out as well if not ive got some fine sandpaper thanks again cliff jonno.

Jonno Emsley says:

Also what would you clean the EGR valve out with some degreaser as i can do
this thanks jonno.

Anthony Fazzalari says:

HI Cliff, Have cleaned and refit EGR, and plugged the vac hose to it. Just
had the dealer replace the injector loom under warranty and an overnight
pressure test, with all ok. The second part of the injector loom that goes
down the firewall still has a fair bit of oil in it. Cold start runs on 3.5
ish cylinders. idle – the engine rocks a fair bit.
Dealer has no more ideas. I have asked them to source the other part of
that loom.
Thanks, Anthony

Brian Ravenscroft says:

Thanx Cliff. Took it to Isuzu put on tech 2 no3 inj u/s I have a 2nd hand
set. Replaced no3 last night…ran worse so I put the orig one back in so I
could drive arou d today. Shes ok but not right. Cleaned up inj harness all
looks good. Prob is I dont know how to test the inj I have without trying
each one in the engine. Any ideas. Brian

Jonno Emsley says:

Thanks cliff do you know how to do this or know where i can go to look it
up. My brother inlaw pluggd up one of the vacume hoses is there more i have
to do to the egr valve and i would never of thought that it could almost
make it stall. I bought the car last year and was fine up untill august
this year then it started playing up one day it was fine then the next bam
anyway thatnks for your help so far thanks jonno.

Anthony Fazzalari says:

Thank you cliff, Job for the weekend

Jonno Emsley says:

oh and i just thought of something else could it be the oil rail pressure
sensor or switch sorry to ask jonno.

Anthony Fazzalari says:

Hi Cliff, I learnt a lot from your vids. Thanks. I have a 130km Jackaroo.
The dealer has just replaced all injectors, sleeves and seals, twice and
all glow plugs. The engine still rocks quite a lot at idle and just off
the brakes staggers forward. Once throttle is used it drives beautifully.
Then dealer doesn’t really know what it is and no private mechanics have
any idea either. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Anthony

Cliff Knight says:

Hi Vitalie. No it’s not the injectors. It is impossible for fuel to end up
in the oil through an injector! Fuel in the oil is faulty seals in injector
sleeves in the head – as shown in this video the sleeves must be taken out
and new O-rings put in. You need the special tool to get the sleeves out,
as shown here. Plans to make the tool are at the link in the comments
above^.. or I will be selling them for about A$100 on eBay in about 4
weeks. The O-rings are cheap, and the job takes 2.5 hours

Vitalie Cernomoret says:

Hi, I’m Vitali, I’m from Moldova, republic of, I have Opel Monterey 3.0 DT
4JX1, I have a problem, I think you can help me. My skype Zeom4k, fuel gets
into the oil, in my country only 2 cars, one cars is my, this guy say I
need to change flue injector, because flue injector only 100000 km, and I
need to change, its expensive//// please halp me

Cliff Knight says:

Another is an old trick – screwdriver tip on injector and put your ear hard
up to the handle. There will be all sorts of noises, but do each one in
turn and the one that’s different is your problem. Theres a bit of oil
splash when running engine w/o rocker cover so prop some cardboard around
to make it run back in, or lay around rags on the inlet and exhaust
manifolds. Video of reinstall coming up, i’m just making an improved
“Jackarooter” sleeve remover..lol

Cliff Knight says:

hi Brian.1st step is to do a “MIL” test (“6E-27” of manual). The ECM may
tell you(Ideally,a Tech2 diagnostic makes a good injector click 5 times w/o
engine running-less means u/s injector). Another way is to take off rocker
cover, lay a few rags around and start her w/o turbo. A good injector can
usually be seen by a squirt of used oil out the side each firing. Dead ones
arent pumping usually. Also, unplugging wire on each one in turn,if no
different in running then that’s the buggered one 🙂

Brian Ravenscroft says:

Hey Cliff…great video. I have same vehicle 300,000 k. Yesterday one
injector started playing up. Do you know how to identify which one it
is…or should I just take them all out and have a look. Also, did you do a
video on re installation of the injectors? My veh has been fantastic. Had
new injectors & seals done by GMH at 160000k, since then I have only had a
problem with the oil pickup which caused the turbo to fail. I replaced it
myself for $450. Any help would be apprec. Cheers Brian

Cliff Knight says:

yeh Viekra, mechanics used to petrol get a bit fearful of a turbo diesel.
Also there’s a basic fact of diesels that car maufacturers might not like –
they have to be built heavy because of the compression,so tend to last
500-700,000km. The 4JX1 engine weighs 600lb dry.. a solid machine. Making a
vehicle that could last your whole life without ever being replaced isn’t
on the marketing plan eh. Thing is, a turbo diesel pickup gets about
25-30mpg so why would you ever want too get rid of her

Cliff Knight says:

yeh Farnzy, thats on the cards..mainly a trip to a remote goldfield that’s
being planned :-).. Meanwhile,i’d recommend looking up “isuzu trooper
israel” here. They have a big club and take great video’s of countryside
very similar to our’s. Those guys have great tips too, like how to crank up
the front torque bars for a bit more height. The Jackaroo is very comfy for
my shot up arse – it weighs 2.5ton and floats on the chassis on rubber
mounts. I find it even better than the Landrover V8 I had

Veikra says:

In north america, there has been much efforts to keep the small diesel
engine out. These lobbies are finally starting to lose. Isuzu came back to
canada on it’s own with the NPR or whatever they are called now. Still no
signs of a small diesel pickup such has the isuzu diesel powered chevrolet
colorado from asia…. We’ve not had a small pickup(ute) with a diesel
since the 80s.

farnzy2011 says:

Would you think about doing a drive video in your diesel? I’m considering
selling my 88 jackaroo and getting one of the newer diesels. (Something
safer and better on fuel) I can only find very little info on what their
like to drive. I.e noise and power wise. It’s a pity the heui system never
was fully understood in the jackaroo. They were class leading at the time.

Cliff Knight says:

the 6VD1 / 6VE1 series uses “multiport” fuel injection. Most of the
technology is in the 4JX1 diesel. The 4JX1 was regarded as “problematic” by
many mechanics. This is probably because it was an early foray into
computer controlled diesel engines in a passenger car and was unfamiliar to
many technicians. However the HEUI injector system was identical to the
very reliable CAT diesel, and in fact was used under a patent agreement.
Now, ECM controlled diesels are everywhere. Ironic really

farnzy2011 says:

Unfortunately the petrol troopers did not get the direct petrol injection
set up as it was released on the 04 3.5 v6 engine. The trooper was
discontinued in 03. The 6ve1 has standard injection set up

Cliff Knight says:

interesting Veikra, thankyou. Yes I’ve had 242,000km on these injectors and
sleeve seals – and the injectors are still going strong… so not a bad
result!. I like the Isuzu engines.. my brother runs an Isuzu truck and it
is very impressive with economy and long-life. Petrol-Diesel.. which is
best?.. what a problem! The petrol is more powerful for the highway, the
diesel has a longer life and maybe a bit more torque for off-road use. It
depends on what you do the most of I guess 🙂

Veikra says:

actually they sit in the middle of a combustion. On petrol engine it’s an
explosion. The isuzu trooper had direct gasoline injection in their 3.5L
v6. First direct gasoline injection below 100 000$ price tag. On the 01-03
duramax there was also a batch of bad filters which scrapped countless
injectors. Kinda around the same time of the 4JX1. On my 05, I have
351000km on the factory injectors. So they can last if built right If it’s
wasnt from shipping price , I’d like to get a 3.0tdi imported

Cliff Knight says:

yeh, a bit of a common problem in most forms of direct injection I expect..
since the tip sits right in the middle of an explosion. It’s surprising how
long these things last – must be bloody tough material eh 🙂

Veikra says:

kinda like the first gen 6.6Liter V8. Injector cup splitting, injectors
going back. Fixed in the second gen

Cliff Knight says:

My pleasure Bretty. This isn’t a difficult job but watching it being done
hopefully reduces the fear factor a bit :-).

brettymike says:

Excellent informative video , much appreciated Thank you :).

Jonno Emsley says:

Gday cliff i am have a big question to ask about my 4JX1 i have had it to
the holden dealer and they seem to think its the injectors. This is what i
have just fixed a new turbo as the old one had alot of oil in it the
throttle switch and sensor are new and have been set to the comp it has
never missed a service with 5w30 oil new fuel filter the one near the air
filter. And this is what is going on when it starts which is fine you have
to let it warm up for about ten min then turn it off and start again then
it is ok to drive when driving if iam at 90km in fifth trying to get to
100km it blows black smoke and i loose power if i try to drive straight
away its got no power and blows lots of black smoke and some times after i
have had a drive stop and start again its idle is lower today i started it
warmed it up then turned it off when i went to start it again it started
then almost stalled can you please help me is it my injector pump and can i
do it my self or my injctors thanks jonno.
