Isuzu MU-X & D-MAX Provent 200 Catch Can Install – Catch Cans 101 – DIY

G’day Guys and Gals!

In this video i show you how to install a Provent 200 Oil Catch can to your turbo diesel Isuzu Mu-x or D-max.

The kit i bought for my Isuzu Mu-x is a Western Filters Provent 200 Oil Catch can, supplied in the kit is a stainless steel bracket for mounting the catch can behind the air box, all of the hoses and fittings necessary to carry out the installation.

Firstly i show you how the catch can works and then explain why it is necessary to install one to your turbo diesel 4×4. I then give you an overview of how the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system operates and why it is necessary.

The catch can is a great thing to fit to your modern 4×4 due to the re circulation of the crankcase fumes back through the intake. This re circulation of oily crank case fumes can cause the rubber intake hoses and inter cooler to block and perish over time. The oily mixture can also mix with the dirty EGR (exhaust gas re circulation) Gasses and cause a sludgy carbon mixture which in turn blocks up your intake system.

In this video i try to give you as much information as possible about catch cans, how they operate and why they are necessary to help you choose the correct catch can for your vehicle.

Thanks alot for watching guys! If you enjoyed this video and would like to see more videos like this. Please like and Subscribe to my channel : )

I have an aluminum one fitted. It requires to undo the bottom can to drain the oil. Not much room to move around. This Western Filters is so easy to drain. Will change to this brand. Thanks Nic for your recommendation.

Another great video thanks

Isuzu Bighorn says:

Nice one, I DIY mine with 2" PVC and plugged my EGR's, A rear bumper sill would be functional too.

Ein Felder says:

You need to cut off the excess drain hose and have the tap at the bottom, for easy opening without faffing around cutting cable ties to do it. I would also add a stay to the top mount as that bracket had too much wobble. A trip to the cape over the corrugations will see that bracket snap off.

G’day Nick, I’m so glad that I found your channel cos I just bought a D- Max a month ago and it’s good to learn about it especially since I’ve never owned a Diesel before.

Helicrete Sydney says:

Dick head manufacturers don't fit them so they benefit from the maintenance and issues not having a catch can, has on the vehicle. Nice vid mate. Cheers

Michael Mears says:

Opposite Lock quoted me $450 fitted… I might just go that way. Another great video, thanks Nick.

JailBreak Overlander says:

Nice, we dont have these in the states, just 6in lifted supercharged 80s. well I do at least Lolol

Tony says:

Top video Nick as always. I've heard differing opinions as to the importance of these, and one lingering question is if these were detrimental to engine reliability and longevity, why don't vehicle manufacturers fit one as standard?
Thanks
