Isuzu rear main seals.
Since the early 90s the Isuzu 4J engines have run a two component rear main seal. This seal when installed correctly is extremely reliable and has a built in oil slinger/sleeve which actively drives oil away from the seal area. It also does not wear/damage the crank surface over time compared to a traditional radial lip seal.
The reason installation of the two piece seal is critical is due to its radial lip design, the relationship between the sleeve and seal body Is important as it determines the preload on the seal. The proper installation tool not only evenly drives the seal into position but also sets the correct position between the sleeve and seal body (they don’t sit flush with one another) Many people have failures installing the seal by just slapping them in with a socket or piece of tube. Here are some detailed pics of the seal and an install video using the correct tool.
