Thanks for the tip. I had this code on my mazda 6 and cleaned the EGR valve
and the passage way with carb/choke cleaner. Code is gone. Only costs 45
mins of my time. Awesome

Hello My car is coming up with the p1401 code and the car shop wants to
charge me 300 for cleaning the egr passage and another 230 if the valve is
bad what do you reccomend?

deezomaxima says:

I get the code every now and then on my 376k mile Maxima. The plenum was
gunked up years ago when I took it off the car about 10 years ago but it
hasn’t gunked up since. I had to replace the rear vavled cover gasket
recently so I know it’s not clogged. Sometimes I think just spraying
cleaner into the egr itself is the best thing after cleaning the plenum.
Maybe Seafoam it.

I cleaned my intake, replaced the EGR valve with a new one to find out that
my modulator is bad. I switched it with one i found at the junk yard and
the vacuum hose that connects to the EGR valve finally started sucking at
idle. but my car starts stalling when i connect the hose and the EGR valve
stays sucked, not sure if thats normal, but when i remove the hose the car
stops stalling. Any suggestions? 2004 Kia Optima 2004 2.4L.

t hammer says:

Would this be the same method for code P0404?

Craig Hanson says:

Scotty, thank you for the awesome videos. I have definitely learned a lot
from you. I have a 1999 Accord V6 and I took off the intake plate and
cleaned the EGR port thoroughly, I took the EGR valve off and cleaned out
the bottom of it where the passage is – careful not to get throttle body
cleaner on the top part (electrical portion). Put it back together, took
the car for a long drive and the light came back on. How can I check if
the EGR valve itself is good? Could it also be an electronic thing like
the computer throwing codes? The EGR passage is very clean…. Thanks
Scotty

Mr: Kilmer, First off I’d like to thank you for making the auto repair
help/guiding videos that you make, you are an inspiration for people like
me that enjoy working on vehicles, but sometimes run into issues that are
easily solved by watching your videos. I just have one question for
you…how many cars do you have???

Thoughts on a EGR delete? I heard its “tech for offroad use only”. But
I’m sure it don’t effect emissions much.
