Hi Scotty, Got a 1993 F150 2 wheel drive. was running good but not great.
All of a sudden the truck is running really rough when in gear. Runs fine
in park and idles OK. Had new AC put in with condenser and all. Mechanic
charged me $1200 to tell me the engine is no good. I’m not buying it, drove
it from Mississippi to Florida with no issues then started running rough.
Takes forever to get up to speed but once it does she runs fine. Will stall
out at a stop if the AC is on. Put in a can of seafoam and put a can of
Restore in thinking it would help if I have low pressure. Will a pressure
sensor switch replacement be a good start to see if that’s what’s causing
my rough engine? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I may need to
replace the oil pump/ screen as well. Just don’t believe the truck was
running fine one day and horrible the next. I would think the engine being
shot would be a more gradual thing with a steady decline in performance.
Thoughts?

hey scotty, great videos. check this out. after running my 02 envoy for
about an hour when i stop at a light my oil pressure gauge drops. hit the
gas goes back up. i replaced the oil sending unit and it still does it.
BUT… it only does it when the ac is on. always has. when the ac is off,
there are no problems. will cleaning the throttle body help??? please
help!!!

Jeff Wood says:

Hello Scotty Kilmer. I watch your videos all the time and I have a 93
isuzu trooper and I did recently replace the oil pressure switch because it
was leaking. But now when the vehicle is at an idle the pressure drops to
nothing and the light comes on. But then it shoots back up when I give it
gas even when the vehicle is in park. Could it just be a bad connection?

Fred H says:

I’m not sure if you can help me but I’m having a few problems.First the car
won’t start unless I spray some type of fuel in the throttle body. When I
get it running grey smoke that smells like burning rubber starts coming out
of left side of engine somewhere underneath. My oil is black and it still
has another thousand miles till next oil change is needed. And inside of car
says check gauges and service engine soon.Thats a mouthful lol.

Drake Drakonis says:

Thank you! I have this same exact vehicle and have been searching for this
damn thing this helps a lot!

ThrashForceOne says:

Great video Scotty, as always when I have a problem on my vehicle I need a
simple explanation for.
The oil pressure light in my car (’97 MB Galant Station Wagon) was turned
on, so I replaced the sensor and refilled with brand-new engine oil.
However, the light is still on and I have no idea why. Any tips?

jeffery Todd says:

sides but is more pronounced on the left of the engine how should i try to
remedy that? and also i have a low pressure issue with my gauge ive done a
full oil change and service and its still idling rough and sitting at about

MIGUEL BUSTILLOS says:

Ethan Meikle says:

sending unit. when i was putting every thing back together i mixed up a
couple of the clinenders on the distributor cap and my car wouldn’t start.

thoughts?

Ed Lucas says:

my 1990 k1500 brass fitting that the sensor screwed into broke off at the
engine…is that a stock part/ or is it something I have to reproduce at
the local plumbing supply?

Fixing A Low Oil Pressure Gauge

fauxcive says:

Do you drain the oil before removing the part? In my mind, I would think
oil would spill out, especially if it’s located towards the bottom of the
engine.

Cody Covey says:

Do I have to drain my oil first before changing the sending unit?

Katie Blocker says:

i have a 2006 yukon but it is topped out at 80 psi. what to do?

jeff landon says:

great help thanks for your video

baire702 says:

hi Scotty, speaking of gauges, would you please make a video on installing
aftermarket gauges in cars with few or no gauges and/or idiot lights. I
have wanted to do this, but don’t know where to start. Thank you!

David labrier says:

i have a 89 s10 blazer 4.3 l im getting oil leaking into my spark plugs im
thinking its an inner gasket but i don’t know what ones i should start
with.if you have any advice it would be great. thank you for your time and
great job on all the videos

esevatoloco9997 says:

My truck turns off while its moving and the check gages light turns on.
Would it be the sending unit?

Jacob Heeren says:

Say you didn’t have oil pressure could it be the oil pump

dogmanx88 says:

my oil pressure guage is maxed out. my inspection sticker just expired. do
i need to fix it before i renew the sticker?

baptizedbyfire13 says:

I thought this guy was off his rocker when I first started watching the
videos. However, Scotty knows how to put things in layman terms with clear
and concise depictions and demographics. He authors one of the best
tutorial series found on youtube that I have ever seen. He also breaks the
monotony with his enthusiasm to keep things entertaining. I like that. His
approach and demeanor is encouraging and eases self doubts and anxiety
about DIY auto repairs.

kyjoe9 says:

Thanks Scotty. I have a 1986 Chevrolet Chevy truck with a bad sending unit.
Had no idea where it is at. Now I know. Keep up the good work

Deisy Gonzalez says:

Thank you for your respond. I will do. But if it is not the problem, please
tell me the worse scenario that could be the problem??? I really appreciate
all your help and time tying to help me out with my priblem

Ralisk86 says:

Thanks Scotty, my oil gauge is bouncing from 0-15 and I’ll be doing this
repair soon on my chevy truck. Thank you for making your videos!

Jason Estevez says:

Scotty, I have a 1997 Chevy Blazer 4.3 L Vortec, the blasted thing no
longer run, my oil pressure gauge is 0 and my fuel pump isn’t working
either. I have checked all the relays and this seems to be the only answer
I can come up with. Question is where is the oil sending unit located? I
have been given mixed answers on its location. I have the 1997 Chevy blazer
shop manual like the one you would use at a dealership and its like reading
another language. I’m a geek and a nerd. Help??

Aaron O says:

Ha. I dig your videos sir

r8er4everd says:

OOPS, you forgot to re-install the 15mm Distributor hold down bolt…lol

Deisy Gonzalez says:

Hi Scotty. My name is Daisy and your videos are extremely helpful. I have a
problem with my lincoln navigator 2004. While I’m driving normally, at
certain point it shutdown with no reason. After that, when I turn it on, at
the board it shows me a sign saying “low oil pressure” but the car starts
normally. The thing is because I’m a girl mechanic can play with me and
make spend a lot of money for no reason. I’m afraid it could get worst and
may cause an accident. That is why I’m not using it but I really need to
fix it. What this could be?? I really appreciate your help.

mick zechman says:

Scotty I have a 1990 Chevy Van. The oil pressure goes from 40 to 0 for a
short time (30 seconds or so) and then returns to 40. It started doing this
about 2 weeks ago. It’s happend 3 or 4 times since. When the gauge is
working it does react to the rpm’s. The motor has no noise in the lifters.
Do you have any thoughts

cleyvosier says:

i have that problem now on a 2002 trailblazer

mustang sally says:

I changed the unit and followed your awesome instructions. Every thing
worked perfect. When I started the engine it leveled out at 35 pounds. when
the engine got to operating temp it bottomed out and bounces back and forth
from 0 to 10. it runs and sounds great. any idea why?

Duece66 says:

Appreciate advice but Dude Calm Down!!

Wendy Byers says:

Ok. It usually doesn’t matter if its at idle or not. Another thing is that
the light doesn’t always come on and stay lit up solid, it will flicker and
either stay on or go off. When I got the oil changed, they checked the
pressure and it checked out good, so I have a feeling it more than likely
is the switch. It is ok to drive like this?

chataskates805 says:

Hey scotty my check gauge light is on and my engine sounds perfect right
now since I changed the disriputotr and lately whenever I drive around the
engine sounds perfect and randomly the engine wants to die unless i step on
the gas and while the engine wants to die the check gauge light starts to
blink really fast should I check the oil pressure gauge first? and i did a
engine oil change on my vechicle two weeks ago

Elizabeth Gutierrez says:

Would that also cause the check engine like flash? I have a 2004 Mazda 6 a
lil under 98k. Oil light flashes and so does the check engine light.
Thought it was cause it was going to need an oil change soon. Got it done
but still lights up

Devin Evaristo says:

Hey scott I have a 1995 gmc jimmy 4×4 with the 4.3l vortec and my oil
pressure gauge shows no readings. It sounds rough when cold but when warmed
up it sounds okayish. What should I do?

Wendy Byers says:

I am having this issue with the oil pressure light. I drive a 2001 pontiac
sunfire GT 2.4 4-cyl. I just this past week got the oil changed, so I know
it is not low on oil. It is not making an unusual noises or rattling.
Should I check the sending unit first? Is the sending unit the same as a
oil pressure switch? Where is it located on the engine?
