Nissan & Infiniti 3.5 / 3.7 / 4.0 V6 Timing Chains.

Nissan & Infiniti 3.5 / 3.7 / 4.0 V6 Timing Chains.

This video shows you some tricks on how to pop off the front timing cover. This is after the lower oil pan was removed and front cover bolts removed from underneath, I explain how the timing chains line up and where Top Dead Center is ( TDC). I remove and install the secondary timing chain and also show you the back timing cover gasket that some times can fail. I also put the chains back on

Cool vid but perhaps getting better closer footage would have been nicer

lilkraker says:

Spent my whole day at work getting to the cover and called it a day when i got it off. This vid is very informative, thanks!

pc zapp says:

Excellent Video –you mentioned an $11.00 Gasket for under the rear timing cover plate. The top one that some call a Y. I have not found that to be avail.I refer you to Motor Magazine Jan 2016 – Foreign Service with Dan Marinucci – page 12 That can be found on the internet as well. What have you come up with other than making a gasket.

Doug Burckhardt says:

great video…is it possible to remove the timing chain access cover and then remove and replace the primary timing chain tensioner? If yes, should i worry about the timing chain possibly skipping a tooth? When installing the new tensioner do I remove the tensioner pin when it's lined up with timing chain guide contact point? Should I remove the fuel pump fuse prior starting vehicle so that the pressure builds in the tensioner? Do I need to remove the water pump access cover too? thanks

Alfonso Pinedo says:

Do you know what codes it would show for this job?
Mine is showing p0335 p0340 p0345

Mike Pottle says:

Can the variable timing gear sprockets just be changed instead of replacing the entire engine? I have a customer with a 09 370Z that won't start/run. Cam/crank sensors test ok. Car will run in limp mode with crank sensor unplugged. Thinking it could be a problem with the sprockets or timing chains. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!

I am getting my timing chain tensioner guide replaced should I automatically do the timing chain and water pump as well or just the guide to stop the noise?

David David says:

hey I have a question I have a 2008 infiniti g37 im getting the code p0011 I have change the vvt/I solenoid and it keeps giving the same code. I have taken the timing cover off and it looks the engine on this video with that built up oil.  question would one of the sprocket go bad to give me this code? thanks

ZIMALETA HOW TO SHOW & UNBOXING says:

Hey man Great Video, I earned allot, I have a question, I want to swap an Engine out in my 2003 Infinity FX 35 with Engine from 2006 Nissan Murano they both have 3.5 L Engines, what do you think, Also The The Engine in FX35 Had Timing codes and it shut off while driving about 45mph and Now it does not Turn over, I am also a YouTuber I mainly mess with Mercedes diesels, so not to familiar with Nissan Brand But I do like them, you obviously know what your doing, after watching your video I probably can do a timing job, but in any case, I will take this Engine apart first by removing a Timing cover, I want to know what happened, Question Do you think 3.5 Engine is a reliable Engine

Triangle Choke says:

I left the injector fuse in and pulled only the fuel pump fuse. This allowed me to get oil pressure turning the engine over without starting it. Put plugs back in and fired her up. So far everything looks and sounds great. Thanks for your video Jay!!!

Triangle Choke says:

Jay, I have taken all of your advice. I used a chain vice grip, replaced oil galleries with better after market gaskets. I have all plugs removed. I have tried to turn engine over with both Fuel Pump and Fuel Injector fuses out and will not turn. I put fuel pump fuse in only and will not turn. Then put injector fuse in and it obvious turns over, but now flooded. I want to build oil pressure in all tensioners just like you said, but how can this be done if pulling fuel related fuses causes it to not turn over to build oil pressure in order to avoid chain(s) jumping teeth?

refugio campos says:

Hello Jay, I did this job but engine does not wants to start, any suggestion's?

lucoll says:

I notice there is 2 screws that comes from the bottom, how did you remove them ? did you have to remove the oil pain to access the screws? or there is something else?

James Adcock says:

need help with a g37 timing chain problem

latino914 says:

hey how's it going…I had my mechanic change my water pump because of a coolant leak. now when everything got put back together the car won't rev past 2500 rpm. giving code P0021. what could this be?

Maximaniac72 says:

I've noticed the one thing all these Nissan V6 timing chain videos have in common is the owners didn't like to do regular oil changes. I've read the reasons why they have tensioner problems is dirty engine oil. My 3.5 has 165k miles on it and the chain is still as quiet as the day I bought it with 50k miles on it. I change the oil every 5k miles or less though as I REALLY never want to do this job!

Jason says:

do you still see that "y" rear gasket blown out on newer engines or is that also a thing of the past?

Jason says:

do nissan engines still need the timing chain replaced when they get up in miles? i know the toyota and hondas never need to be replaced. they are good for the life of the engine. also are the timing chain guides still a problem on these engines or have they corrected the problem on the newer models?

Gabesan says:

Thank you for the non B.S. and straight forward approach to installing this timing chain & sub chains!!! I'm a Lexus tech and I can install timing chains on GR engines with my eyes closed…no need to mark anything or torque with a torque wrench, but my friends Pathfinder had me scratching my head a couple of times haha…thanks again!

AlexyLaGorda Chavez says:

One question if my chain snapped or the camshaft broke do i need to replace the hole engine or just the a new chain with the valve ? My car is a 350z hr

Nic Lambert says:

what motor exactly is this? I have a 4.0 that is losing pressure and being told to replace those two oil gally gaskets large and small. I need the exact model of those gaskets and where to buy? ANd going to get the timing chain kit off line at a ROCKAUTO or something. Have a guy going to do the labor at his shop. ABout 9-10 hours of labor he is saying. Please let me know. Thanks.

Whiskey Kilo says:

This is great DYI for the timing chain replacement! I'm in the middle of this now and you have some great tips. I also caught something you mentioned about the rear timing cover oil gasket blowing out. I think I might have this issue. :/ Is there anyway I could contact you or send a picture? I'm in Dallas so I'm not in your area. Thanks again for posting this!!!
