thanks for the detailed description and thorough walk-through. I’m replacing this unit with an AVIC + metra kit but funny thing is as soon as I pulled it out a bit from the dash it started working. Must be a loose connection, no? Either way this sucker is getting replaced!

I have a 2002 Expedition XLT it has the 6 cd changer but it’s not part of the stereo itself it’s in the middle part of the car and I have to open the compartment to change the cds. Is there a way to change it?

You could do it, but you also need to replace the A/C control panel as well with an after market unit.

It is not simple, but you could try.If not successful, sell it back on craigslist. Keep in mind that you are buying an eight years old technology. For navigation purposes a portable Garmin GPS has more feature.
So its not worth the upgrade of the navigation system theirs a guy on craigslist selling the whole unit for 300 an the glove box with the dvd player I want to do a complete swap will it be to hard what I need to do
You need complete wiring harness, display unit and the navigation drive unit. I would suggest a portable navigation unit.
