I usually prefer to follow instructions, even when it may be less efficient. However, from experience I can recall two issues. When the guards get ripped out due to going over something on the road or parking area, they will usually just break the plastic push clips – not so with self-tapping screws. Also a tapping screw install would look different ones that were installed by the dealer – most customers expect the factory look.

Why didn’t you just use self taping screws? That would have saved you a lot of time
