WHACKBUSH says:

Just find a way to apply the same directional force to the bolt that the castle nut would if it were already tightly screwed onto that bolt. On a tapered bolt, you should be able to use a knee, a clamp, or an extra jack to push the moving part tight enough against its mating piece to keep the tapered bolt from moving.

stayonpoint21 says:

When you were removing the nut (the side that contains the cotter pin) you said to use the impact gun to prevent the bolt from spinning. When I am tightening that nut back on with the torque wrench, will the bolt spin? Or do I have to do something to prevent it from spinning?

Enthusiast Auto Care says:

Maybe even the tie rod ends do not have to be removed.. just try taking out the compression rod alone without doing anything else. If something gets in the way, just take it off 🙂

Enthusiast Auto Care says:

Steering rack does not have to be removed, just the tie rod ends have to be popped out of the steering knuckle if I remember correctly.

Great tutorial. Steering rack needs to be removed first? Do you have any good source of after-market rods? ( btw I call it – banana 🙂
